It's been a strange day here near Paris Texas. Since this morning, we have spent several hours today at various times with multiple radar feeds showing up to 35dbz precip at this location and not a drop has hit the ground all day. Granted, we are at the fringe areas of both the Shreveport and Ft Worth radars and don't get a look at the low altitudes, but QUIT TEASIN' ME, we need the rain!
Seriously, this is the longest bout of what I assume to be rain evaporating before hitting the ground that I have ever seen. The radars are not in clear air mode, so what else could it be?

I think it's just what you said about being so far from the radar site. Those returns can be misleading.
I looked at the water vapor image and the PWAT for your area and you should be getting something. If you have access to L2 data I would use that. It has better resolution at longer distances in my opinion.
Kind of in the same boat here as I am 100 miles from the radars in Tampa, Melbourne, and Jacksonville. Each one gives a slightly different intensity for the convection in the area.
I would contact the mets at your local office and see what they think. I have several times and they usually answer any questions.
