Look to the Skies: Geminid Meteor Shower Peaks Tonight
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:22:51 PM »
Supposed to be at peak from midnight to an hour or two after.  Look in all parts of the sky

Probably best seen in the east / northeast United States.

I was just thinking yesterday, I need to get my 2m rig out of mothballs.  I was thinking of doing something with APRS (maybe).   I've taken about a 4 year furlough, had serious burnout, but I'm getting the itch again.

I got in to APRS originally many moons ago just so I could see my home weather station on the radio in my truck. That was back in the early days of APRS, pre Igate, when you could digipeat several hops across California and see traffic from several hundred miles away.

It looks like we just dodged a bullet (a space bullet, that is).  Story here.  Notice where it talks about the southern hemisphere towards the end of the story.

Watching from my back deck at Massanutten through the bare trees.  I'm seeing one brilliant meteor about every five minutes.  Fantastic!

OK, Ole Tele and I brag about the fact we live in AriDzona and have clear skies most all of the time.  Tonight we have rain and cloudy skies!  As an Astronomer I am not happy...
