18z GFS…colder faster and snow for the Mid Atlantic
« on: November 06, 2013, 08:02:04 PM »
So two runs in a row now on the GFS and one on the Euro earlier hint a I-95 storm.  Sure its 144 hours, 24 model runs away but with the plunge in the AO & NAO soon we could see this maybe happen in 6 days. I like some things but it may be the "snow before the horse" pattern change that may make this better later this month.

Hope the Euro overestimated! That's a LOT of snow for my area!

The Euro has had quite a few big flips this year compared to last year. I hope it's the one that brings the cold and snow though. I want to see the GFS trend more toward Euro before I get too excited.

From my meteorologist buddy:
"Things to note besides the above:  The Arctic high is large on GFS and ECMWF and far west.  That leaves plenty of room in the lee of the Apps for a lee trough, this is where cold air is slow to come across the mountains, and easterly, northeast winds will work in from VA while southwest winds collide with it in northern GA. Sometimes that's a localized precip maker in its own right, in the absence of a true surface low. And ECMWF does show that on Wed. morning with very light snow or mix, possibly rain showers, from Atlanta to Charlotte then takes that moisture in scattered fashion further east then expands it immediately offshore quickly Wed. Night and Thursday."

You guys just  might get what is coming across the state here now. I don't have all the fancy tools you have but I watch the river of air where it flows.

Yup, and a lot more HYPE to come too. Just gets my dander up to read and hear all the TV Mets promoting this stuff then it doesn't happen. Doesn't help that I'm NOT a fan of winter weather either I guess. How many days until Spring?

NWS has included the "S" word in our forecast for Tuesday Night:

A slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

I see the "banana high" is already forming.
