Another UK winter storm
« on: January 03, 2012, 04:02:16 AM »
No sooner has Scotland cleared up from the storm just before Christmas than another one is hitting the UK.

Northern parts of England and Ireland are seeing winds already gusting well over 100mph, and news reports are coming in of structural damage and transport disruption. Even southern parts of the UK are experiencing gusts of 70mph around the English Channel, with ferry services expected to be disrupted.

Forecasts are for 8 inches (20 cm) of snow over Scotland and torrential rain for the southern parts of the UK with squally showers to follow.

Brace yourselves Scandinavia it's heading your way next.

They predict that it will arrive tonight, with wind gust up to 25 m/s, and then Wednesday morning, declining to about 21-23 m/s.

I hope that my roof does not fly away this time as well.

I ran across this news report.

Severe weather causes damage around UK

Storms have caused damage across many parts of the UK, with gusts of up to 100mph in Scotland.

A man in his 50s was killed in Kent when a tree collapsed on his van, and a crewman died after being injured on board a tanker in the English Channel.

A bus driver in Surrey suffered serious injuries when a tree fell on his bus.

Thousands of people are still without power in parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
