ISS/Console Errors
« on: March 30, 2009, 10:35:47 PM »
I have a Davis VP and there is intermittent signals from the ISS ie, dotted lines where readings should be. It's not that far from the ISS to the console. Called Davis and they told me to replace the ISS battery which according to the guy I talked to was the root of this problem. I replaced it and it's still not working correctly and in fact the old battery which was the original one about 4 years old was still in good shape. I'm just at a loss here. Would a call back to Davis be in order?  :?
Thanks.

Did it start working for a day or two ater battery was replaced??? if so may be your super cap... if not that then i would look in to ANY new electronics that you have installed recently.  also check our solar panal.. and about how far is the iss form the console??  was it recently moved???

Yes a call back to Davis would be in order. Sounds to be like you may have to replace the circuit board in the ISS.

Thanks,
Anthony

Yes it did work fine a few days after I replaced it.  My console is about 70 - 80 feet from ISS so reception should be fine. I even moved it closer to the ISS about 30 - 35 feet with no electronic devises to interfere with it, it still showed dotted lines. I don't want to buy a new station if I can avoid it but calling Davis and see what they say won't hurt.
Thanks.

I am having the same problem, but that cap in my 1-year old VP2 looks fine. I get a voltage of 0.239V across its leads with the battery and solar cell removed. I am draining the cap off with a 10 ohm resistor so I can make sure the unit is fully powered off, and then I will try powering it up and testing it again.

It was working fine yesterday, but reported a low battery. So I put in the new battery, and since then I get no data from any of the outdoor sensors. The console diagnostic mode says I am getting 100% packet reception. But the displays are still full of "-----" for the outside sensors.

Any ideas what to do next?

I just looked to see when we actually bought this, and it was last June, so being less than a year old, would it be under warrant? I guess calling Davis would be a good move now?
