Fan replacement parts?
« on: September 16, 2017, 01:09:00 AM »
Just got a new 6163. Considering the fan is a wear item, and I would like to keep one or two on hand for when it breaks since it's 24 hr, what is a replacement motor, or entire fan assembly for it?

Thanks guys

When I got tired of Davis motors frying I used this, most likely better than the stock motor (what's not ), but I didn't use it more than about 4-5 months. Works great but no true idea of how long it'll last.

Looks good.
I see the fan replacement kit sold by Davis is potted, what about removing the original, and the potting with this replacement?

All I did was dig the old one out, slide the new one in. It needs to be centered into the fan motor housing because it's slightly small. Many ways to make/use something to center the fan which is a must to keep the blades from rubbing the side. Hellofalot cheaper (and probably better) than the whole fan assembly.

Absoultely. $65 for a fan is stupid.
What do you recommend to center it with?
I can pot it myself with a little liquid rubber like Plasti dip brushed on or something. Not going to hard pot it with epoxy resin or I'll have to buy a whole new fan assembly lol.

All I used is thick two-sided tape (just something I had), wrapped it around once or twice making it a concentric fit and leaving the outside "unpeeled" so it would slide into the hole. Worked beautifully. Like I said, many ways to accomplish the task, but it's gotta be right, very little wiggle room.

for me it is easier to buy a new fan from Scientific Instruments,  However, I have found that it is generally the batteries that give up.  I purchase my own rechargeables  and they last about 2 years before quitting.  I have to replace mine fan and Ihave the kit over on the table, probably I might wait until summer of next year to do all that.  Having FARS in winter isn't too great for me.

My original Davis fans had the motor held in place with hot glue.  The hot glue can be easily removed by putting some isopropyl alcohol on it.
