I noticed yesterday my V5 advforecast2 page was pulling interesting text.  At the end of every description, it was "rainfail of greater than 4 inches expected."  We've been in a drought and haven't received more than 4 inches all year.

So I flipped back to my V4 forecast file. It was working yesterday.  But now I have the approximate sign in front of all my temps this morning.

So I'm guessing they are still messing with things.

'Messing' is definitely appropriate. Mine had been running very well for quite some time, but started screwing up about 2 weeks ago. Almost daily problems now.

The approximate sign just indicates a Zone forecast was used instead of the (unavailable) point forecast.

No explanation for the extra text about rain.  Yep, they're still tweaking the forecast engine.

Meanwhile, I'm leaving the JSON version as the distributed version for the script since it will work now (with api.weather.gov) and when they switch the forecast.weather.gov site.  The V4 script will stop working when they switch as the MapClick.php script on their site will be removed.

Same here, started getting MapClick forecast unavailable or server problems couple weeks ago so switched back to older advforecast2 and issues cleared up.

Ken, as we wait for the NWS to get their forecast scripts running, I have a question about the format that we will need to use for our forecasts. In advforecast2.php (V5.02), around lines 76 through 84 I see the following:

Code: [Select]
//
//This script will ONLY WORK with a printable point forecast of either the OLD format like:
// http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?
//  CityName=Saratoga&state=CA&site=MTR&textField1=37.2639&textField2=-122.022
//  &e=1&TextType=2
//
// or the new format (after March 7, 2017) of
// https://forecast.weather.gov/point/37.2639,-122.022
//

The old-style allows us to enter the city name but the new format appears to leave this important detail out. My question is how does this show up in the newly generated webpage? How will we know what we are looking at if we have multiple drop-down selections that are close to each other if we can't designate exactly what those areas are? In my case, I have several locations I use that while physically close to each other have completely different weather patterns due to mountains and valleys.

Hope this makes sense to you. If not, let me know and I'll try to give a better explanation. Also, I have been placing my selection list in my settings.php file and not the advforecast2.php file as I am using your Saratoga template.

I'd recommend using the old-style (MapClick type) URLS for now .. they'll work with either script.  The new form only works with the new script and not the old script.

Oh, well...

"The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Central Operations (NCO) had planned to implement a major change to its Point Forecast application (http://forecast.weather.gov) on Monday, August 14, 2017, however this implementation has been postponed. A new implementation date has not yet been set."
