WU strikes again!
« on: January 17, 2019, 05:43:29 PM »
I always go to Intellicast for the local Nexrad data, I liked the detail and the way it was presented along with the options, I went there this morning to see how the local snow storm was doing, I just went back to look at the afternoon data and was greeted with a redirect to WU and telling me "new look with the same maps!"

 BS

The detail is all gone as apparently they can't spare more than 3 pixels on the map, and of course the usual WU trademarks of slow loading and random "404" errors

Well I didn't use them and didn't want to start using them but since they are taking over intellicast I will make my one rant and move along to something else.

Intellicast.com is a part of The Weather Company (weather.com, wunderground.com) so it's not a surprise as they consolidate.

Yeah I've used the Intellicast radar for a long time and also found it the best for me...Looking for a replacement but haven't found anything I'm really thrilled with yet.

Were you aware that a lot of the Intellicast maps are still kept-up to date & available at the actual URL?

Enter:   http://96.8.93.198  into your browser address bar, or click on the link  (sometimes you have to just enter the digits & periods... I don't know why) & you can get to the opening page.  Most or many of the links seem to still work for now...  A Godsend when I have to plan trips.

Pass this on.  If the site gets enough traffic, maybe it'll be kept-up.

An FYI:

If you are wanting to put Accu(crap)weather on to your site, you had best read their Terms of Service. They are very aggressive about telling folks NOT to use their products on ANY website. Several here have found that out over the years. I refuse to use anything of theirs or TWC/WU.

This is IBM we're talking about here...if the site gets enough traffic they'll block access.
