Ambient WS-1001 Console Failure - Resolved
« on: September 13, 2017, 09:06:34 PM »
Heads up to all AMbient WS-1001 Wifi console owners out there. Walked by the console for my station sitting on the kitchen counter one day and it was totally black. Fiddled with it for ever,  read the T&T on my purchase, browsed WXforum for other owners with a console fail and then decided to buy a new one. On a hunch, I took out the power plug adapter from the new unit when it arrived today and plugged it into the wall and my old console. Powered right up.

Well, it certainly felt like a failure to get current to the circuitry in the unit as opposed to some sort of failure of the circuitry. My guess is the dipole in the plug or the receptacle has a defect. I may use my microscope to evaluate it this weekend.

The console operates on 5 volts, 1 amp (1000ma) minimum. I've converted my power cable to a USB. Now I can use any USB power brick or battery source, If needed.
