Weather Map Cycle Study
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:27:25 PM »
ive created a current to past 500mb and precipitation map comparison program on my website www.weather2hunt.com/weather2plan/new_maps.php  Ive used many cycle inputs such as saros, apse, declination, phase, rossby etc.. Ive also input a 38 day barometric cycle i created and im looking for comments from others..the maps can be compared side by side. i believe theres a correlation between the 37 day eclipse  cycle in conjunction with solar, declination, phase and rain cycles using a mathmatical rythym of 9.316 day..register free and login..

sure the weather pattern gets into cycles
but blocking systems stop that cycle from time to time
how do you predict that?

I'd be more interested in checking it out if you weren't collecting all that personal info toget a login for something that's experimental and for which you are looking for feedback. Perhaps you could create a guest login for forum members to use for a few days or weeks, and then delete it later.

.. Considering this idea, What would you say is the chief element, or otherwise looked at, set of elements, lending to "blocking". ?

usually the jet stream has alot to do with blocking highs (or lows even)
the amplitude and number of waves and speed of movement of those waves , steepness of the up/down of the jet stream changes slowly
when you get a steep up down wave that is slow moving, that will be a blocking situation in the progress of the weather patterns

What I'm looking at, where considering your response to the idea suggested by "weather2plan" above (if somewhat sketchy, certainly fairly general), where looking at a (/ any type of more.) cyclical regularity where considering broader weather patterns, .. is basically, that "blocking" could - logically, also be looked at as occurring / being brought about .. cyclically.

Or in other words, and in more direct response to what you've said more just above, .. With "blocking" being a product of the both speed of movement, together with variable amplitude, of the waves (various ridges and troughs) in the jet, .. what's to say that these elements don't also occur with some type of cyclical regularity. ?

there is too much natural chaos occuring in the atmoshpere to have any regulary, long term predicatable cycles

Certainly a reasonable view.

However, at least for myself, and where considering my own more personal study of main colder air mass both movement together with distribution, I've in fact noted a definite, and even demonstrable, certainly general cyclical regularity, where looking at both its main more latitudinal, together with main more longitudinal potential.

This kind of topic is really for more advanced climatological types who are interested in this stuff. I do not think you will find such a crowd on this forum site. Granted, I am sure there are a few who get into this stuff but for the vast majority on here, I think they are more interested in getting advice on how to setup and run and weather station and website....

Just my two....

Yes, which is why I suggested the weather forum I did.

However, you need to know your stuff before posting there... or else they'll tear you apart.

For example:
QBO relationship to the Arctic Oscillation: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/40066-qbo-relationship-to-the-arctic-oscillation/
Hurricane Sandy with the latest report: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/37461-hurricane-sandy-live-impacts/
ENSO Discussion: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/39826-2013-enso-mega-thread/

You get the picture.

Even with all the studies in forecasting I took in the past several years, I don't even try to touch that stuff. Like everything else, you have to use it everyday or you forget it...

I personally prefer the synoptic and mesoscale levels of forecasting, not the climatological aspect as much.

I know... there is so much to learn and factor in... it will give you a headache. And just when you think you know what's going to happen... it doesn't. And the best of mets bust a forecast which goes to show you how hard it really is.
