Title: My First Station..
Post by: bmdoss on August 11, 2011, 09:46:49 PM
I have been lurking doing research to purchase my first station..

My final 2 are the Davis Vue and the Ambient WS-2080

I like the separate instruments in the 2080 and the wireless comm to a computer but the update rate is rather slow..

The Davis has a much faster update but the interphase to connect it to a computer is extra also the instruments are in one unit.

My limit is 300 so the VP2 is out of the question..

Has anyone had experience with both or any of the units that could give me a little more insight before I go nuts  ](*,) trying to decide.

Thanks

I am new to weather observation and recently bought the Ambient Weather unit. As an entry level unit it is excellent and the free software is a plus. It just all depends on how much money you want to spend and what level that you want to go to observing weather...

Davis Vantage Vue.

That's what I currently use. If you want compatibility and trouble free operation (at least mine has been!), get the Davis. IMHO.

I have both.... the Davis has more accurate readings but it costs much more also. The 2080 is a good station, especially with free Cumulus software.

Whilst the software is available to download free of charge many Cumulus users do make a donation to the author to help with software costs which aren't free to him.

Started with the 2080. Seemed too much like a toy. Went to a Vue which worked well, but I still wasn't satisfied. Now have a VP2+ and am VERY happy with it.
