How to connect wmr968 on Notebook with Ubuntu
« on: June 23, 2010, 12:03:00 PM »
Hello!
I didn't get serial rs232 cable with wmr968. I can buy serial2usb converter but I am afraid that I will not connect it to my Ubuntu 10.04 because I must install some driver and I believe that driver can't works on Linux.
Any advice?
Tnx

If your computer has a serial port, buy the serial cable and try that first. If that doesn't work try the adapter, if no good, then you will have to change operating system or maybe buy a stand alone computer for the WMR968.

maybe buy a stand alone computer for the WMR968.

That was my first thought.  It doesn't take much of a computer to work a weather station (or three).

My computer does not have a serial port so I decided to buy usb to serial adapter that I can connect it to PC or some of the Meteohub alternatives.
I can change OS and migrate from Linux to Windows, that isn't problem... I will try to buy some other Usb To Serial adapter and install the driver.

Thank you guys!

Get a USB to serial converter based on the Prolific chipset.  Ubi has natice driver support for that built in.
