24 hr. rain not showing up correctly on aprs
« on: March 30, 2007, 10:58:10 AM »
Steve,
I'm currently running 1.1.6 which is not sending the 24 hr. rain total to the aprs server. It does however show up on the software display screen for aprs. The only reason I went with this version is that I did not see any problems with it like with 1.1.7. Should I upgrade to 1.1.7 and see what happens.

Thanks,
Tim

Just to let everyone now that the 24 hr. rain is now showing up on the aprs server this morning. This is a great piece of software. I'm also doing a trial on virtual vp which compliments vplive.

Steve,
For some reason 24 hr. rain reset itself this afternoon edt. I thought that vplive was suppose to keep a running total through a 24 hr. period. My rain from midnight shows .16, last hr. shows .02 and my 24 hr. shows .02 also. It should read .16 for a 24 hr. rain. This is also showing up this way on the display screen of the software.

Thanks,
Tim

This is a known bug, but I haven't been able to track down what causes it. On a rare occasion, the accumulator that keeps track of the 24 hour rain in VPLive loses its place. If you have VPLive set up to initialize from the WeatherLink wlk file, then you can get around the problem when it happens by closing VPLive and restarting it. This causes it to rebuild its 24 hour values from scratch from the data in the WeatherLink file.

I have seen this happen once on my system, and a few people have reported it, so it is rare. But I would very much like to squash this bug.

Thanks for the reply Steve,
Just out of curiousity what do you have your sched freq set at on your end. That did the trick to shut down vplive and restart it. I've also noticed that vplive comes up with the error that says can not retrieve archive data when the weatherlink software is running before you start up vplive.
Is it suppose to do that or is this a bug.

Thanks,
Tim

I'm not sure I understand the error at startup.

If you're not running VirtualVP, then WeatherLink shouldn't be running on its own when VPLive starts. In the VPLive configuration, you tell it where the wlk files are, and where the WeatherLink exe is, and you select the option in VPLive to run WeatherLink when VPLive starts. Then, when VPLive starts, it will run WeatherLink in such a way that WeatherLink opens, downloads the archive data and then closes. After it closes, VPLive will connect to the console and begin displaying live data. If everything is configured correctly, you should not get an error message saying it can't access the archive file.

Tim, for what its worth Weatherlink now supports 24 hour rain to APRS.

Virtual vp is running when I get the error. Weatherlink can not be open and running before vplive otherwise vplive says it can not retrieve the archive data .wlk file.

Yes, VP Live needs to be started before WeatherLink to avoid the error when using Virtual VP and running both programs continuously.  This is where Steve's StartWatch program comes in handy to delay WeatherLink's startup.  I think it's a Window's "feature" to lockout other software from accessing the files once WeatherLink claims and/or is accessing them.

Mark is correct.

Note also that the startup portion of StartWatch is freeware. You only need to register it as freeware if you use the monitoring features.
