Where to find local CAPE values?
« on: September 08, 2015, 03:06:11 PM »
I've found a color coded map, but I'd really like to find the actual CAPE value for a location.

Any pointers? I've been doing some searching...

The only place I get actual CAPE values is in the "Forecast Discussion" portion of my NWS office, if it's discussed at all. When it is, the sounding is usually presented in unmodified and modified values, dependent on the lifting method. Other than the map you stated (which only works with little or no clouds), that's all I know.

BTW, SPC will advertise CAPE values also, but only if there's something worth reporting.

Yep SPC may mention in Mesoscale discussions. There is a new experimental map out also if you click on surface based cape. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/exper/mesoanalysis/new/#

Turn on cape under thermodynamics. Will give a current still of sector your in. Has auto refresh on it too.  8-) Very cool, I just found this myself.
