CWOP not reporting my data this morning
« on: May 23, 2015, 08:04:19 AM »
Anyone have a theory as to why CWOP has not reported my data this morning?  All of my others services, Rainwise, WU, PWS, seem fine, and a check of nearby CWOP reporters look fine.  Looks like it's just me.  It started about 5 hours ago.  Station is a Rainwise MkIII reporting through an IP-100.  Are there any remedies I can try to get back on line?  Is there someone I should report this to?

You have not sent or at least they have not received any data since 0151 this morning.

Perhaps do a power reset/restart of devices and programs until data is reported again?  Presumably you've tried those remedies already.  I also presume that your software is configured to send the data to cwop.aprs.net per http://www.wxqa.com/servers2use.html

I've just gotten started sending WX data to CWOP over the past week or so and am still learning a lot.

How are you sending data to CWOP?    I did not think rainwise net sent to CWOP.  They didn't show it on their website.          If you are using rainwise net you need to talk to them though I doubt they will answer the phone until Monday.

Or maybe Tuesday since Monday's a holiday.

If this is the same problem I've been having, please read the thread directly beneath this one titled "MesoWest updates" if you haven't yet. Mine currently hasn't updated in an hour and a half. Definitely getting old. ](*,)

Well, I've been gone all day, but without me doing anything CWOP started getting my data again at about 1:00 pm this afternoon.  I guess we'll see how it goes.

CWOP support through Rainwise is relatively new (about a month).

Unless this several month problem has been fixed, (I see NO evidence of such) , don't hold your breath.

You may be right.  My CWOP reporting stopped for a couple hours again this morning and now it is back as mysteriously as it left.  Not much point in continuing with CWOP if this starts happening with regularity.

Again this morning CWOP is not reporting my data for the last 3 1/2 hours (3rd time in 6 days).  And again, WU, PWS and my Rainwise dashboard are all happily humming along without skipping a beat.  I'm not going to reboot everything again when all of my services except CWOP are functioning fine.  I think this has to be on the CWOP side doesn't it?

You might load up Wireshark and monitor the network traffic and see just what might be happening when your computer tries to send the data to CWOP.

I noticed that sometimes my data is old coming into this site below... It's like their server freezes up for a bit... I believe every site that gets this data comes from Mesowest, right?

However the Findu site has updated my stuff this morning normally... There must be something messing up in your software.

This may be totally unrelated and more of an administrative/bookkeeping thing but when I look at a CWOP state listing I don't see your site. Also on this link (looks like there's data now), there is no name associated with your location. And lastly, while looking for your site this morning, it showed up on the CWOP unregistered list and not the registered list from the link in item 3 here.

Again, not sure if this is anything significant and related to your issues.

You're right, Idon't see my site listed either.  Is there someone I should contact to address that?  I thought the Rainwise s resgistration procedure was too simple.

Second, yes, my station is now reporting to CWOP again.  I still find it hard to rationalize how this problem can be on the Rainwise side if my IP-100 is reporting to 3 other services correctly and only CWOP is failing.

Third, I found myself on the CWOP "Active Member" list just a moment ago.  Is that different from the "Registered" list?

To all: This is a MADIS problem, not PWS problems. Their new computer system is having thoughput issues, for now a long time. ](*,) Please send your complaints here. Leon Benjamin - NOAA Affiliate <leon.a.benjamin@noaa.gov>

His initial post was a link to the data from the findu page, hence my suspicion that perhaps there is an issue with the wx software, APRS-IS servers or perhaps CWOP registration. If I understand the data flow correctly (and it is complicated so I may not), but I thought the data flow was:

Wx software -> APRS-IS server -> Findu server -> MADIS

That is my understanding, hence my suggestion to use Wireshark, a network mointoring tool, to watch for packets exchanged with the CWOP/APRS-IS servers to be sure the software is actually sending the data.  That presumes that the software is sending data directly to the various services and not to some other service which then forwards the data onward.

Your route of data flight is correct. MADIS does the quality check, then sends it to Mesowest, among others. Mesowest is where I personally check my station data 99% of the time (not WU), hence why I'm so up on this issue. If we bug Leon enough, perhaps we'll get a fix sooner than later.

That is not his route. his route is ip 100 to rainwise to APRS server to findu

His station is not registered he must register it rainwise does not do this. There is no quality control on his station because he has not followed the proper registration procedures.

My Mesowest updates have been working fine for several days now. Are yours still messed up? I just downloaded 3 days of data and nothing is missing. I think the OP is having a different issue altogether.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I successfully signed up with NOAA today.  I got several email replies to my request within a half a day.  Much more of a response than I expected on such short notice!

Data is rarely missed, it sometimes just takes hours to be posted. The OP has his own Rainwise issue, which he has hopefully solved, but on top, we all have this MADIS junk too.
