GRLevel 3
« on: December 26, 2006, 11:23:56 AM »
I'm considering buying this program.  I'm trying to figure out how to change the color of the font in the manage place files folder.  I would like the font to be white instead of the light blue it is currently set at.  I will attach my folder if anyone would like to take a look at it.

Thanks,
Tim

I'd be happy to help if you'd like. I'm not sure exactly what it is you're trying to do though. Are you trying to change the color of the the font when it is displayed on the screen for a particular place file?

Yes,
That is exactly what I would like to do.  Here is what I have.
Font: 1, 11, 1, "Arial"  I tried to change the first and last numbers with no luck.  I do know the middle number is the font size.

Thanks,
Tim

Where is the rest of the file? This is part of a place file I use to display my house on GR3 when it hits the right zoom level.

; KCWX
;
Title: My House
Threshold: 60
Color: 200 200 255
IconFile: 1, 32, 32, 16, 16,"C:\Program Files\GRLevelX\GRLevel3\house.png"
Font: 1, 11, 1, "Courier New"

Icon: 38.97420,-094.66868,0,1,1,"KCWX\nMy House"

Note the red part of the file. The color numbers are just regular colors used by most graphics programs.

I figured it out from a color by number site.
255 255 255

Thanks,

One problem I'm running into is that the marker is almost right on the word itself.  What do you use to go into a edit the cities gis file with.

Thanks,
Tim

If you right click on the screen you'll get a menu. One of the choices is to remove markers. You can then also set new markers and set home. Home will also change where the center of the range rings is.

Keep in mind I am going off of memory and also using the latest registered version so some things may be a little different but the trial should be the same.

That is true.  That is how I set the mark.  When I put the mark in the proper Lat./Lon. it goes into the text.

Just adjust the lat/lon of the text a little to the right so it appears beside the mark.

Is that how the marks are set for the cities GIS file folder. I see what you mean but you can only use the mark for one place. I've got 50 or more small towns in my place file folder. I also can't seem to change my font for my places when I go to GIS,settings..places.

Thanks,
Tim

My fault, I thought you were trying to do something else. Sorry.

The place file itself controls what is displayed and how. You need to adjust each file accordingly. The cities file you are trying to use in my experience has way too many things in it unless you are zoomed in to almost street level. I would try weeding out the smaller cities in the file so it doesn't look so cluttered. As for the font, colors, marks, etc for the major cities place file, you just need to adjust the settings on the text file itself, just like you did the color earlier.

Font: 1, 11, 1, "Courier New"
; Major Cities by Population (200000 or more)
Threshold: 999
Color: 0 255 255
Text: 35.4675,-97.51611,1,Oklahoma City
Text: 39.09972,-94.57833,1,Kansas City
Text: 36.15389,-95.9925,1,Tulsa
Text: 41.25861,-95.9375,1,Omaha
Text: 38.62722,-90.19778,1,Saint Louis
Text: 37.69222,-97.33722,1,Wichita
Text: 40.8,-96.66667,1,Lincoln
Text: 41.60056,-93.60889,1,Des Moines
Text: 34.74639,-92.28944,1,Little Rock

That is just the begining of the file you are using. If I turn that on in my manage places folder at no zoom it covers the whole screen. That is because of the threshold being set to 999 which is displaying everything all the time. Lowering the number will make it so that you have to be more zoomed in for them to show. What I did was make 4 different cities files with different cities at different thresholds. Put the major ones at 999, the next smaller ones at say 750, etc. When you zoom in the smaller ones will appear little by little and also be spaced farther apart. I also went through the file and weeded out one's that were not in my immediate area so they wouldn't clutter the screen.

Anytime Tim glad to help! Always so much easier to explain things over the phone than through countless posts. Glad you're happy with it! :D
