Acurite compatible with Google Home
« on: June 14, 2019, 04:37:20 PM »
I just saw that Acurite is now compatible with Google Home. Followed the instructions provided on Acurite's site, but still says device is not connected.
Anyone else try this yet?

Chris

It's working on mine.  Seems a little shaky, though.

Sometimes it says Acurite isn't responding.

I don't use Google home much, so maybe I'm doing something wrong, or those instructions are wrong.

As written in the instructions, I can't "Ask Acurite..." to work.  I have to say "Talk to Acurite...".

Also, it seems it won't work through the Google Home app.  You have to use it through Assistant.

For example, I can say "Ok Google, Talk to Acurite for the current conditions".  (If I use "Ask", it says "Sorry, I can't send messages yet".)

It's kind of annoying that I have to explicitly say "No" or "OK Google, stop" or it just keeps repeating.

For home automation I find Alexa to be better as it feels quicker and more natural language and such. For getting information from the Internet then Google Assistant is better. I have both and that's just my take.

Alexa = 3 syllables
OK Google = 4 syllables

But you can also use "Hey Google" and that is 3 syllables. But I still prefer Alexa for home automation.

I figured out why “ask” isn’t working for me.  “Acurite” is in my contact list, so Google wants to default to messaging them.

They'd probably get tired of messages like that...   :-)
