WMR-968 Annual Rainfall Reset
« on: January 22, 2009, 05:03:02 PM »
How can I reset the annual rainfall on an WMR-968 without losing other data?  We have had zero precipitation since the first of the year, but the total rainfall on the broadcast display still shows last year's total.

You should have done this 23 daya ago. ;) What took you so long? Must have been some New Years Eve party.  Sorry I couldn't resist.

Thanks,

I've also posted in the VWS 'Rain totals' thread.  My console is and has been reading correctly 0.0(rain gage is offline for the winter up here). I followed Dr Bob's directions (link=topic=1507.msg12526#msg12526 date=1212867102) changing the .bin files for 2009 and 2009_01 to 0.00 in both min and max (and even tried changing  Average to 0).  Restarted VWS and the rainfall display didn't change, rechecked the .bin files and the prior  totals are back in the min and max, but the average changed to 0.02.  But checking settings>rainfall that is showing 0 for the month and year.  Also checked calibration and it is at zero.
What am I doing wrong?  What else can I try?

Check the database file(s). Remembering what files populate what files in VWS is a pain in the BLEEP. Just remember to make a backup of the files before you start messing with them. There is a utility called CSVedit that makes editing the database files much easier.

What database files do you mean?  I thought the .bin files are the database.   ](*,)   Luckily I have many months yet to figure this one out.  Could I make my gain (-) in the calibration?
Thanks

I did that, but still have nearly 9" for the year, which should be 0".  I neglected to tell you that I am using Ambient VWS software for the WMR-968.  It is in the VWS software where I see the incorrect YTD rainfall.  Maybe I should post this in the software section of the forum?

dewey, If the yearly rain total on the console it should be reading zero in VWS. If not check under settings | callibration and make sure you have no offsets entered.

No, the bin files and the database files are not the same. The database files are located in vws/data. And the best way to edit them I described in my last post. You can use Microsoft Excel to edit them. But I wouldn't recommend it. It's very easy to screw up the file if you try to use Excel. Or you can take the easy way out and just enter a (-) offset.

Thanks Anthony,
I  took the easy way, put in a negative offset for the Rain Total.  Do you know what are the .bin files for? :???:

They store the "RAW" data collected by your station, and other .BIN files store your VWS configuration settings for such things as Warnings, HTML Settings, FTP Settings, Chart/Graph/Display configuration and position.
