Any time Kevin!! Glad I could help!!!  It's much better to have this working with weather that has been affecting some of us lately!

Hope your area is tranquil!

Exactly! What a crazy spring!

Hope your area is tranquil!

We've had an extremely wet spring. So far we've received 20.13 inches ytd. The normal ytd is 10.47 inches. Last Thursday my entire back yard was under water. Besides the 0.89 I've received so far today, we're forecast to get more rain (possibly heavy) and possible t-storms tonight. The mess that's in IL/MO looks to be heading our way. The forecast is for continued rain until Sunday. There's a lot of flooding around here as the ground has been saturated for weeks.

Have things been quiet in your area?

Somewhat..until the tornado outbreak of April 27-28th. We lost a tree here which is trivial compared to what was lost a mere 8-9 miles down the road. I plotted the path and the whole mess was headed straight for us until it veered more north.. Somebody was definitely looking out for us!  Other than a little minor flooding and wind that has about been it.. Our weather patterns for the last several years have been nowhere near as active as this past winter and so far this spring!  Definitely not a good time for NWR or the warning servers to go on vacation that's for sure!  Hopefully you didn't suffer any damage with you back yard flooding problem!  That sounds like it could have been a huge problem.. The warnings have gotten a workout here along  last night thankfully we were under some but didn't receive any problems because of it.

Thankfully we only had one minor alert here during the last round of severe weather, but it came and went appropriately on my website.

That is great to hear !!! For such a long time we could report nothing but negative remarks about this operation.. finally some good results to report for a change and they come at a much needed time with all the severe weather happening currently.

New issue identified.

Presently we are in a Flood Watch and a Tornado Watch. (Storms on the way but not here yet.) The tornado watch has been in effect for almost 90 minutes.

My atom-top-warning header displays a Flood Watch but not the higher priority Tornado Watch. Any suggestions? I'm using atom-top-warning ver. 2.07.

IIRC when they reworked the warnings the TOR warnings are now on a county basis vs zone. Might want to have another look at your settings,especially the county code and make sure it is OK.. I suppose it could also be a NWS problem. I think Sam had a problem with the TOR warnings and to find later it was indeed a NWS server issue. Currently everything is tranquil here and likely will be for a day or two. At any rate if you get serious weather be safe!

Thanks Wayne.

I went to Ken's test page and entered my zone:

http://saratoga-weather.org/atom-top-warning-testpage.php?zone=MIZ061

and it, too, lists us as in a Flood Watch rather than the higher priority Tornado Watch. So perhaps it is a problem with the NWS site. :sad:

Thanks!

Actually my fix was to no longer use Ken's at http://saratoga-weather.org/scripts-atom.php#atomadvisory

....but to use Curly's Atom Alert script.  Unfortunately I was going to post a link to it here for you.  But it appears he may have taken it down or at least moved it, from my bookmark location.  I sent him a message to restore/direct me to it.   :-( #-o

UPDATE:  I provided a download link further down the thread for those who still want it.

The issue appears to be where the NWS chooses to put the warnings.

The Zone warning has only

Since the atom-top-warning is set to read the Zone, it only shows the flood warning.

Regrettably, Curly has discontinued distribution (and support) for the multizone ATOM PHP scripts so it's no longer available :(

I found this link on the other forum that may explain his discontinuance.  http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,49871.msg410558.html

UPDATE:
I found an original copy of the script that I had.  I hope he does not mind if I share it here.  But I guess in respect of the info found in the above forum, he may not appreciate that I post it publicly.  SO I am attempting to clear it through him.

Thanks for the explanation, Ken.

That raises a couple questions:

  • Is there an alternative to atom-top-warning? Before its distribution, I successfully used rss-top-warning. I switched to it (rss-top-warning) this afternoon too give it a try, and it also gave merely the Flood Watch and not the tornado watch/warning.
  • Throughout today's events, my "weather graphic"  properly showed the highest priority warning. Thus, as the statements became progressively more severe, it correctly displayed flood watch > tornado watch > tornado warning. So where does the wxgraphic get its info?

As always, thanks, Ken!

Good News!

I have talked with Curly(Rick) and he is allowing me to host it at this point.  However I am under the impression that he does not want to be contacted on support issues at this time.

So here it is for those who wish to download it.  I also provided a "read me" file with a change to the config file that everyone should note.

This is great news! The support issues for this script would be very minimal if the NWS could settle on standard for doing things and be able to stick with that for a time.  I'm sure I worried him to death when I was setting it up on my site a year or so ago. We were having a terrible time getting it to work as he wrote it here for some reason but once we did it was virtually flawless until lately with all the NWS changes.
No arguments that this is a very valuable piece of work and again Thanks to Curly for taking time to develop,test and make available such works!

This script should cure your weather alert ills.
By creating an array with your county and zone files you guys should be all set.

Thanks, Sam & Curly! :-D UU

Great scripts Curly!  I finally got everything up and running this afternoon with Curly''s scripts on my GoDaddy site. Had to set up multiple CRON jobs to get an update every 10 minutes.

Installing AtomAlerts sort of broke my mobile website which started throwing multiple 'header already sent' error messages at the top.  I had to modify 'top.php' like this:

Code: [Select]
//Version top.php - V3.01 - 03-Mar-2011 - added Content-Type header for charset switching
############################################################################
if ($mobTitle == '') {
header("Content-Type: text/html; charset=".strtoupper($SITE['charset'])); // Avoid mobile error
}

And 'include-style-switcher.php' needed this change:
Code: [Select]

############
# Use cookies to remember settings between site visits
############
# cookies are used to remember the users style settings on each visit to the web site
# you can disable use of cookies, but then the settings would have to be set by
# the user each visit to the web site

# recommended setting: true
if ($mobTitle != '') {
$use_cookies = false; # avoid mobile error
}
else {
$use_cookies = true;  # set to true or false
}

Lastly I also made this change to 'WWL-mobile.php':

Code: [Select]
// --- settings for standalone use --------------------------
############################################################################
session_start(); // Avoid 'headers already sent' error
With each successive change I got fewer and fewer errors until they finally all disappeared.

I switched out the alert box from 'wxadvisory.php' to 'AtomArray.php' as per Curly's instructions and added the alerts to the menubar just so they'll be visible on all pages.  I'm anxious to see how they work. Perhaps I was a bit ambitious in including the contiguous counties, but I'll have to see how it works before I decide on any more changes.

Thanks, Tony.  Mother nature is kicking up her heels around here this evening!  She's giving Curly's Atom Alerts scripts a good test.
