It is not fake but likely postprocessed via Lightroom (notice the HDR-like artifacts).  There was a heckuva storm up here when that was taken.  BTW, if you haven't seen Lightroom etc. they are pretty amazing pieces of software.

Lightroom is good as a "universal SW" which can do anything from picture organizing, adjusting etc. But in terms of just effects and post-processing nothing beats Photoshop.
