Davis Forecast
« on: April 24, 2017, 04:48:35 AM »
Hi folks

Anyone else have reasonable forecasts from the VP2. Mine have been pretty much spot on

At present its

mostly cloudy and cooler, precipitation likely, windy with possible wind shift to the w, nw, or n.

This is also what is forecast from the other Met bodies for my are too, i am quite impressed
with the console forecast
Kind regards
Bashy

Mine is 50% accurate at best.  But it is better than the Acurite
ones!

I believe its for anytime with in a 48hr period? i would also go as far as to say its not limited to your exact location

I mean, when other media forecasts say there is a 40% chance of rain for you, that also means there is a 60% chance
it wont for you, seen as its based on a larger local area and not your back yard so to speak.

I think this too is how the VP works as well.

Mine has been correct so far since i got it back at the beginning for Feb.
Mine is now saying Increasing clouds, little temp change, this, going by other forecasts, is what is forecast for today
i.e. cloudier around lunchtime and temps up up a little from yesterday
Kind regards

I have to agree with the majority here, the VP2 forecast is a minimum 85% accurate, not sure how it comes to that point, clearly number crunching all the weather parameters and narrowing the outcome to a single answer. Who cares how it arrives at the answer - fact is it works - and works damn well !! - At least on my console.

It works reasonably well and probably just as good as some of the so called "official" general weather forecasts which by the way are also nothing more than a forecast over a fairly wide area.

Today could be the 1st wrong one that i have notices, both the Davis and the OS are saying sunny,
yet tomorrows forecast is supposed to be cloudy all day, the next clear day is Wednesday and im
sure it on about then :/

EDIT:
Scrub that, its changed its mind

increasing clouds with little temp change, precipitation possible within 24 to 48 hrs.

Mine works fairly well, seems to do about as well WU or NOAA.  Of course, 50/50 up here in the mountains is respectable.

It's pretty meh for me.

I think the big downside is that the station is coming up with it's forecast merely on local observation of a single station.

If they started to create forecast ensemble based on ALL the stations... then we might be.. well.. re-inventing weatherunderground and such

I replied to a thread about this a year or so ago and nothing has changed. For me, this is BY FAR the worse part of my VP2/Vue set-up. It's truly a joke in my neck of the woods and I'd venture to guess it's remotely right 10% of the time. Even now it says "increasing cloud with little temp change". How about "not a cloud in the sky for the foreseeable future, and your temps are going to be in the lower 100F's shortly."

It works the same as ya old wooden barometers and they work/ed quite well for localised area, i also have a feeling there is some
Zambretti algorithm in there too. For me, its spot on about 80% if not higher, i have to remember its a 12 to 48hr period :)

We have a bit of stormy weather on the way tomorrow, Davis says

the outlook is mostly cloudy with little temp change, precipitation likely, windy with possible wind shift to the w, nw, or n.

Zambretti says Rain, Very unsettled.

Im impressed if no one else is  :-P  8-)
