I was excited to see this new version until I saw the price.. Wow.  Basic version is too limited and pro cost way too much.  The excuse is that it uses public domain data and so no subscriptions.. IMO that shouldn't be a factor in price as subscription data is usually more reliable.  I was expecting it to be more around $130.  I believe that radar data is still sent after a complete sweep so the radar sweep lines are fake, but more realistic than what you see on TV.  Professional weather software shouldn't have radar sweep lines as it is just eye candy.

I think that this version is really well done, but disappointed in the price and radar sweep lines.

Looks like it is a great software, but way to expensive.

After trying out WSV3 Basic Trial version I was not impressed with the Basic Version at all, and as far as the Pro Version WAY WAY TOO expensive, although the radar data and other displays were top of the line. I'm sticking with my outdated StormLab Supercharged.....unless they add more features to the basic WSV3

I understand where you are coming from, and though I currently do not use WSV3 (It is a FANTASTIC product though), I will say this. I have paid $180/year for GREarth for three years now, and I know Weatherbell runs for around $190/year. WSV3 pro is offered as a one-time rate of $360, or a once a year plan of $190. I definitely could say that there is more in WSV3 pro than in GREarth. I use GREarth because I am used to the program and like its features (I do think it is worth the money, and I am a broke college student). WSV3 pro definitely has more products suited to weather online (Like Level 2 radar and FTP!). I definitely know that it is not cheapest, but I do think it is worth the money in my opinion.

I hate reviving an old thread, but after looking at some of the new features, and knowing that they are running a 25% discount on version 3 release day today (which reduces it from 399 to 299 for just today) after trialing it, I was sold.  I bought the full version today.

The public server issues oncoming for older GR products is certainly not going to help GR either.  WSV3 has a lot of momentum going for it right now.

Well done.  I've had the software now on and off on trial for about a month, and outright bought the pro version last week.  I'm pretty impressed with it but it can be a bandwidth hog, so keep that in mind.

With the tropics getting an early start in the Bahama's this weekend if someone could post some graphics from that it would be appreciated.

That looks fantastic. Well done.  8-)

Here's what the models say on GREarth. Remarkably close both on forecast central location and strength (T= TS, D= Depression; different colors represent three different models).

My only thought for future reference is that you have two timestamps for each map. I did not notice the timestamps on the upper left on each map at first.  8-)

The upper right time stamp (and server generated frame #) is current local server time .. the embedded time stamp is WSV3 generated frame time... using UTC for that.....
I see the possible confusion...
It's a 'quickie' awkward experimental lash-up of "on hand" applications , currently, rather than something simple that one of you folks, or I will come up with. :-"
Except on one ancient machine with only a gig of memory, and obsolete graphics, WSV3 is smooth as silk... getting the streams live along with all the other data I'm uploading. really crimps my available outbound bandwidth to an accessing browser...
.... may wind up as individual 'pages' rather than the '3 in one'...

One of these days I may start with the Core version and then move up. But personally, I think the mesoanalysis fills and contours at least (Not necessarily vectors, since Paul created his vector application with Atmograph) could be moved over to the Core. I think it is a very nice product, it's just not price-appealing to me for now. I honestly would rather just pay $75-$125/year and know that he is getting fundage for him to continue his product for a long time like Mike Gibson does ($180 is a little high in my opinion, but I've NEVER encountered a bug).

I personally think it's too much crammed into one program. If I just want radar data I'll use GrLevel3, if I want model data, satellite imagery or outlooks, I'll go to a website. No point in cramming it into one application.

Well I downloaded the 7 day trial pro version and can't get anything working similar to GRLevel3 like cell attributes, direction of cell travel etc. I know there must be more to it but can't find any tutorial either.

At the top of the NexRad Pro tab there are some check boxes labeled 'non-radial products'. Tracks, MESO, TVS are all located there.

Thanks I have it all checked marked on, most likely something I'm missing. Or it doesn't work with the trial version.

So how does Weatherbell and the pro version of WSV3 compare?

It's a program more aimed less toward models (Which is what Paul's program 'Atmograph' is for, and is quite neat), and more geared toward level 2/level 3 radar application/mesoanalysis/nowcasting. But it does have a few model parameters like GREarth does.

Does GR have the estimated time of arrival feature like this? Just curious. I for one am not regretting the purchase of this program one bit.

I have not tried it in about a year ago, but the add-on SCIT program used to do something that was somewhat similar to that.

As we have discussed before Don, WSV3 IS a great program.  8-) It certainly has a lot of great product features.  :-)
