Alternative Dashboard Version 6.53 NOW RELEASED
« on: October 05, 2011, 09:57:07 PM »
UPDATE:  Webster Weather Live is now called Burnsville Weather Live.  All current, past and new script updates will be hosted at the new site.

Alternative Dashboard version 6.53 is now available for downloading. Version 6.5x is mainly an update to add in some soil temperature/moisture as well as leaf moisture.  It also has modifications to allow the new animated icons from  www.meteotreviglio.com and some other minor additions and fixes .  Please look over the requirement and be sure to do a backup before trying to use it.  I suggest you already have Version 6.2x running to use this or be pretty patient with making a lot of changes!

Requirements:
Updated and expanded AjaxWDwx.js file based on version 9.xx from Bashewa Weather
A few more testtags to add in for soil and leaf (optional)
A new config file for Alt-Dashboard6 to support the soil and leaf sections (optional)
Additional images for soil section (optional)

New Features:

Leaf Moisture with ajax updates in rain section (optional)
Soil Section (optional) that takes the place of the almanac section
Changes for animated forecast icons
Addition of 1st snow of the season and Average 1st snow dates.
several other misc bug fixes
This archive does NOT include the separate soil status page at this time (still under development but getting better!).

New in Version 6.53
Condensed average snow/rain/temps, thanks Matthew Romer. Fix for average snow reporting too low.  Thanks Tim Bubla!
Several other minor changes and bug fixes.  Also re-did the instructions to update them and give a bit more step-by-step
startup instructions as well as some links to the optional things people have a hard time finding.  Hope they help.

Hey Scott,

Any thought about creating a dashboard to work for VWS and the ajaxVWSwx.js file?  I finally made the switch to VWS
from WD a few weeks ago. Much more stable program. Yes, there are fewer bells and whistles, but it doesn't crash or miss
data and I don't have to re-create my summary files every few days. I used the Weather Station Data Logger for awhile,
but VWS was much more robust with a few more tags. The only complaint I have about VWS is that it seems to be stuck
with little or no development in the past few months.

Thanks,
Chris

Ummm... I think VWS is quite a few tags short of a 6-pack (pardon the pun).  Seriously, there are many data values displayed on the alternative dashboard that just don't have tags available in software packages other than Weather-Display -- I ran into the issues in having the stock dashboard display as much as possible from each weather software package supported by the templates, and some packages required fiddling just to provide solid Yesterday data for display (notably VWS which doesn't have a native 'yesterday rain' tag we're all so fond of seeing).

Since the VWS-plugin does map the available VWS variables to WD variable names, you can try installing the alternative dashboard on a new testpage on your site and see what you get (and what is missing) .. if the missing things have native VWS tags available, I can update the VWS-defs.php mapping to provide them (just let me know).

You can use the ajaxVWSwx.js script with the alternative dashboard, and all the things available through the WeatherFlash files will update, since the same id=ajax... names are used in both the WD and VWS scripts.  The VWS script doesn't provide the moon info (and other items that probably shouldn't be AJAX updated since they change so slowly).

Just my 2cents...  Scott can make his own mind up on this one :)

Best regards,
Ken

I'll take a look at the available tags and see but like Ken said, last time I looked it was lacking many of the tags I want to display for my dashboard.

Hi Scott,
i've just intalled without any problem   :grin:
Thanks!

But i've the same problem  :-x   ....   if i choose
Code: [Select]
$condIconType = '.gif or
Code: [Select]
$condIconType = '.jpg the animated icons remains the same (with gif extension).
If i wanted to install Wxsim animated icons it's not possible, at the moment, with this configuration.
It seems that the plaintext-parser or ajax-dashboard settings doesn't controlled the script anymore  :-(

Alessandro

I believe you need to update the scripts from Ken's site first.  There are several files that need to change first.

Ken and Scott,

I put together an ajax-dashboard for VWS with as many tags as I could get to work, but there quite a few that I would like to have that are missing. I agree that VWS has nowhere as many tags as WD does. Does anyone know if VWS is even in active development/update? It seems like updates and beta versions come out very rarely. It would be nice to see alot more tags and other features, but it seems like not much progress has been made on VWS really in the past couple of years, with only a couple of beta updates this year. I think the program is more stable because of this (less frequent updates), because WD updates almost every day and I think this introduces unintentional errors at times. Do the VWS folks monitor this board, and does anyone know if any developments or updates are being done to VWS?

Thanks.

As far as I know, Ed, the author of VWS does not participate in this forum.

Scott, I couldn't resist upgrading to your BETA Version 6.50b dashboard in order to stay current with your design even though I don't have any additional sensors--my townhome residence with a 'commons' yard precludes any such additions.  It went well so long as I remembered to incorporate ALL my modifications to the dashboard.  I had made no meaningful modifications to ajaxWDwx.js, so I was able to just bring it into my site as written.

My biggest problem was with cached windrose icons--I had to flush my browser cache in order to get them to stick around even though I could see the new animated windrose icon flash by when my dashboard first loaded.  The best bonus was the automatic incorporation of the new icons into my WWL-mobile dashboard page.

Many thanks to you, Ken True, and 'meteotreviglio' for all your work in improving and maintaining our weather websites.  \:D/

Hi Scott,
only one issue.
I've noticed that the fire index icon doesn't show anymore.
The coplete link is: http://www.meteocarmignano.it/ajax-images/fire/A/Fireundefined.png
Is this an icon called Fireundefined?
Or the problem is that the FWI is too high (61 of 31)??
Thanks in advance,

Alessandro

FWI too high or what?

For some reason it appears that your images are not in the directory it wants.  When I looked at the site live, it wanted the image for the correct value.  All I can think (without being able to see the problem live) is that the reading was somehow missed.

Hi Scott,
thanks for you answer.
But does that icon exist in the image fire set? (Fireundefined.png)
I don't think so  :-(

Code: [Select]
<?php

switch ($firewi) {
     case (
$firewi == 0):
    echo "<img src=\"${imagesDir}Fire0.png\" alt=\"Fire Weather Index: LOW\" />";
     break;
     case ((
$firewi >= 0) and ($firewi <= 7)):
    echo "<img src=\"${imagesDir}Fire1s.png\" alt=\"Fire Weather Index: LOW\"/>";
     break;
     case ((
$firewi >= 7.1) and ($firewi 16)):
    echo "<img src=\"${imagesDir}Fire2.png\" alt=\"Fire Weather Index: MODERATE\"/>";
     break;
     case ((
$firewi >= 16) and ($firewi 25)):
    echo "<img src=\"${imagesDir}Fire3.png\" alt=\"Fire Weather Index: HIGH\"/>";
     break;
     case ((
$firewi >= 25) and ($firewi <= 31)):
    echo "<img src=\"${imagesDir}Fire4.png\" alt=\"Fire Weather Index: VERY HIGH\"/>";
     break;
     case ((
$firewi 31) ):
    echo "<img src=\"${imagesDir}Fire4.png\" alt=\"Fire Weather Index: EXTREME\"/>";
     break;
   }
// end switch
?>

I think that the FWI value of 61 it's too hight and the script doesn't manage to find an appropriate icon.
What do you think about?
Thanks in advance,

Alessandro

Anything higher then 31 is all defined as Extreme Fire Danger but I searched the code for the dashboard (ajax-dashboard6.php and ajaxWDwx.js) and that image filename is never defined in the code.  Are you using the same versions of code that I included in the archive?

Then I'm at a loss to figure out how that filename is being called.  Can you zip up your dashboard and ajaxWDwx config and .js file and send them to me.  Those are the only three files that would possibly be involved.

Scott,

Running the 6.50b along with Ken's latest updates and Alessandro's new icons. Can't get them to show. They are loaded in /forecast/images/ and the script is calling the correct names and .gif, but they're a no-show.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

You must have changed them back, it's showing .jpg now.  Did you do all the required updates from Ken's site too?  Ken made a bunch of changes to several of his scripts to enable them too.  NOTE:  Remember do NOT overwrite the ajaxWDwx.js with Ken's if doing an upgrade as you must be using my version (now called 3.05) to allow the extras I've added to work right.
