need different cable for 433MHz Cable Free Station
« on: February 06, 2014, 02:51:04 PM »
My old weather station's cable are RS-232 serial and the only inputs on my computer are USB - I've looked and looked for for any thing I can use that has one end RS-232 and the other USB.

Is this something that just can't be done?  IS there a work around?

I think it was a WMR968 wireless????  Yea - A piece of crap that never did get humidity right but - it's all I got at the moment.

You might do a Google search for "RS232 to USB converter". There are many converters on the market that are designed for just that purpose. I can't whether it will work for what you want to do.

What are you trying to connect together?

I'm trying to connect my WMR968 station to a computer that was made this decade.

The output is an RS-232 into a USB.  I found a few - I had not seen the RS-232 label before and computer geeks at Besk Buy were confused.

Thanks!

I don't know what the latest serial/usb connector is.  I have several around the house, but they're kind of old.  It might depend on the operating system you're using on your computer.

I'm sure some of the compure wizards around here can tell you the latest versions/drivers you might need.  Are you using Windows and what version, or Mac?

I'm going from a dedicated Win XP machine to a WIN 7. The old serial cable was good but once I got into the 20th century all I have are USB ports.   I'm not even sure the software will work ( just thought of that).

Am ain't weather internet edition V12.08?   Wonder how old that is.

Maybe if there's an available slot on your newer PC then you could add a serial card and use your existing serial cable?

This is from the WUHU help file.  I can't speak to either of these, but they should give you an idea of what you can use:

Quote
IOGEAR GUC232A USB1.1 to Serial/ PDA Converter Cable adapter available at http://www.newegg.com for about $30.

Sabrent SBT-USC6M adapter – make sure to update drivers.
