Meteopage
« on: October 07, 2014, 01:21:20 PM »
Hi,

my name is Jachym and Im from the Czech Republic (English is not my mother tongue, so pls excuse any mistakes). Weather is my biggest hobby and right now I can also say a job. Ive been watching this forum for some time already and it has helped me with several problems I enouctered with my PWS. Ive been trying to create my own webpage and started some long time ago, but since I only knew the absolute basics of HTML and that was it, plus I was a full time student, graduation, part-time work... it really took some time and I was still getting new ideas about what I could implement... Finally however, I think it is now ready to be launched though I expect there still will be many bugs...

I very much like the templates such as the Saratoga etc., but I just wanted to have it my way, so I decided to not use any templates or ready scripts and made everything myself and not only do I now have something just the way I like it, but Ive also learned what words such as PHP, MySQL, Ajax, CSS, Javascript, JSON, JQuerry etc. mean...

There is more information about how the webpage actually began in the Info section and there is also my contact information and some info about possible cooperation, which is more than welcomed!

If you are interested in leaving a comment in the guest book, reporting a bug, contacting me or just having a look I will be more than happy :-)

Very nice site Jachym. Congratulations !
Just a question : Where did you find all those statistics for all the countries in the world ?
Best regards,
Marcel

Which ones do you mean? The absolute extremes? Well.... that was a lot of work :D I basically found several databases and also websites with information, which I all pulled together and tried to make comparable and then put that all into one big MySQL table.

Thanks to all guys, I am really glad the effort was worth it.

With regards to the "clean design" - that was one of the main reasons for not using the templates, as much as I like them, I still find them slightly "confusing" - too much information on one page, banners etc. I understand why it is so - its better to have it all on one page so that it is easy for people to implement, but I just wanted it differently (plus the other stuff that I then added when I started to enjoy doing it so much).
