Title: Confusion with Meteobridge Wiki
Post by: Robbie936 on October 11, 2017, 03:38:23 PM
I am thinking of purchasing a Meteobridge. I have just read the wiki and it mentions flashing routers and a 14 day trial. I am a little confused. If i purchase a Meteobridge does it come with a licence? I should just be connecting it to my Vantage Pro2?
Thank you

The basic meteobridge, is really a firmware image that you need to load onto one of the listed routers under the hardware area. Once you purchase "meteobridge", you are buying the license. Ambient Weather sells a pre-loaded TPLink router that they call "Weatherbridge" that provides both the hardware and software. Otehrwise, you need to get the router yourself.

There is a more upscale model called Meteobridge PRO, which has the software pre-loaded and is ready to go. There is a model that has the RF receiver (Red) and a model without it (Black). The Red requires no console or Envoy and can stand alone. I have one running and it feeds my website with the real-time data.

A "Black" Meteobridge Pro and the standard Meteobridge require the USB logger from Davis. It is needed to get the data out of the console and into the MB. So if you get a supported router and the meteobridge program, the USB logger will plug into the USB port on the router. The need for a USB hub seems to come-and-go with time and opinion, but it might be wise to get a cheap 2-port USB 2.0 hub to place between the Davis and the MB.

The "Black" Meteobridge Pro and the standard Meteobridge apart from the USB logger can also run with Davis WLIP logger, as can the Red Pro if you don't want to utilize the RF

Thank you everyone for your replies. I would be the "Black" Meteobridge I purchase which I assume includes the licence and it is just a matter of connecting it to my Weatherlink data logger and my modem/router.

If your logger is a USB model, I am not sure that the "Black" MB Pro requires the mini-hub. This might be an artifact of the TPLink hardware and is not needed with the MB Pro Black. Of course if it is a WLIP, this is all moot and not needed since it would be Ethernet.

Robbie936, what type of logger do you have USB, Serial or IP?

miraculon - I have the Weatherlink Ip

OK, then follow what Mattk indicated. I was assuming a USB one.
