Good point. There are usually rotors (often invisible) downslope of such clouds. Very dangerous to aircraft.

Yes I know  have generally make a few detours  flying here in SE AK going either north into interior or going south  to Lower 48.

It would  knock you out  of the air most likely due to the rotory motion of the air under it. A heavy metal plane  could  but  would get  bounced around good. When flying mountail  terrain and having to cross over ridges you set up your  fligth path to cross them at a 45 degree angle to the ridge line and up here also  you DON'T fly  up a glacicer due to the cold air sink can be greather then your climb rate. Lot of tricks you have to learn to bush flying.

Sounds like general rule of thumb is the clouds that would be the neatest to see up close are also the ones you want to avoid. :-k
