Title: Lightsoft weather centre software: Will it run on Apple's Sierra OS?
Post by: cloud-maven on January 26, 2018, 03:52:33 PM
I really liked Lightsoft's software by Rob Probin (UK), and it ran great on Snow Leopard, Apple's long dead OS (10.6.8).  However, after getting a new iMac, running Sierra, I can't resuscitate Lightsoft ("weather station not found."  What I like about LWC software was its 24 h temperature and other strip charts.

Is anybody running LWC on Sierra?  If not, what other weather display software will give you strip charts, not just a bunch of numbers?

Thanks for any guidance!!!

You should check in at the Trixology forum (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php) -- WeatherCat is the likely successor to LWC for MAC and Stu (the developer) is quite active there.

Have purchased WeatherCat2, which looks exactly like LWC2, which was a great find!
HOWEVER, I am still getting, "Weather Station not found" still with OS Sierra.   I have carried out the suggestions in the WeathaerCat2 manual of powering down the Davis Pro 2 console, checked the cable (mini-USB to USB, same as when it worked with OS Snow Leopard for years), and unplugged the USB to the iMac.

Here's the background:  everything was fine with Snow Leopard on a 2010 iMac when I took that computer to have its contents copied to a brand new iMac.  The company was unable to return the ancient OS,  Snow Leopard to the 2010 computer, instead it came back from the shop with El Capitan, and the Davis weather station has "not been found" since, either on the 2010 iMac with El Capitan (using LWC2), or on a brand new iMac with Sierra now using WeatherCat2 I purchased yesterday.

The only thing that has changed in this scenario is the iMac OS.  The console was sending data to that old iMac right up until I took it in.

This problem has gone on for months, and I truly believed that WeatherCat2 was the fix!  I feel its something obvious that I just cannot think of.  I've tried all the other USB ports on this new iMac with no change in the situation.

Thanks for any help for this OS and weather station-challenged weather nut,

The issue sounds like a driver problem for the USB interface.  Is this (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=2686.0;topicseen) posting helpful?  I suggest you ask the question at the Trixology forum where the developer and other MAC experts 'hang out', although some of our members may be using that particular combination here also.
