Upstate New York Winter 2012-13. It's FINALLY Here
« on: October 24, 2011, 12:51:47 PM »
Looks like we may get an early start. Latest models runs are hinting at snow.

I'm ready for it. Well not really, but what can you do besides move to the Florida Keys?

It's fine with me - I love winter.  Much more interesting than the other seasons.  :-)

I was hoping to get the lawn mowed once more but guess not now. I did get
the snow blower out Sunday at least.

Ha!  Had to mow one last time today, by Lake Erie.  Either that or get a hay bailer next spring.

I live in WNY but in the banana belt, between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.  I can look out the window across the river and see the snow/ rain clouds forming to hit the south towns.  FYI I just finished mulching/mowing the front acre just as the rain (not snow came).  But the 4 letter word is in the forecast.

Did you ever try snow-blowing leaves??

I see the NWS has lowered the chances for me now. I'm just below
the Tug Hill snowbelt. Close enough to see the lake clouds bubble all winter.

I've never snowblowed leaves, but with 4 dogs, I snowblow a path around the house
and grass flies, and every once in a while, a frozen "chunk" of your know what
makes it way through the shoot too.

Having grown up in Buffalo I don't miss those early snows.  However when any snow hits the DC metro area, all hell breaks loose.  Commute times are measured by the calendar not the watch.

Haven't snow blown leaves but have done the opposite; used a leaf blower on snow.  Works ok on dry, light stuff!

Am I going to miss all the nor'easters again this year?

Awaiting Lake Ontario to awaken from it's slumber will be my best shot

Temps in the 50's and 60's this week. Sure doesnt feel like November.

Lake temps are still running a bit above average for this time of year. That means:

LAKE EFFECT!!! and lots of it.

About time Lake Ontario and Erie awaken from a long winter's nap:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT
SNOW WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH
FRIDAY MORNING.

• LOCATIONS...THE TUG HILL PLATEAU OF JEFFERSON LEWIS AND OSWEGO
COUNTIES.

• TIMING...LATE THURSDAY MORNING INTO FRIDAY MORNING.

• ACCUMULATIONS...IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES POSSIBLE.

• IMPACTS...TRAVEL ACROSS THE TUG HILL REGION COULD BE ADVERSELY
AFFECTED THURSDAY NIGHT.

• FORECASTER CONFIDENCE...WHILE ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL FALL ACROSS
THIS AREA DURING THE WATCH PERIOD...THE BAND COULD OSCILLATE
ENOUGH TO KEEP ACCUMULATIONS FROM BEING TOO SIGNIFICANT. THIS
WILL RESULT IN LOW TO MEDIUM CONFIDENCE OF ACHIEVING SNOWFALL
AMOUNTS OF MORE THAN 6 INCHES.

Good luck with it, CNYNewyork.  We're supposed to catch a little of the lake effect here, especially if it deepens enough, but Tug Hill should get pasted.

Back up again.

I'm surprised no other radar can reach that area. At least for me I have
Montague, Albany and Binghamton.
