That was all the change (plus the version info).  I just thought that new downloads should have that default set automatically.

I do notice that the forecast-v3.weather.gov site shows some alerts that are missing from the api.weather.gov queries .. they appear to be using some internal scripting from a different source to extract the alerts (which appear the same on the current forecast.weather.gov and forecast-v3.weather.gov for a particular point-forecast).

I hope they'll iron out the differences before the next cutover.. the api is to be the 'official' method of getting that data.

Impact to users of the advforecast2.php V5.X: some alerts may not be displayed on the page, but Curly's nws-alerts script (which uses alerts.weather.gov) should continue to display them in the sitebar of Saratoga USA sites.

Thanks Ken, I made the change to false on the previous version. I'll wait for a bigger change when it comes.

Just tried using the ?/convert again this morning and I get nothing. It worked for me yesterday. Weird.
Actually, it's not that I get nothing, I just don't the list of locations converted. The rest of the code is there...

I wouldn't recommend you do the ?convert just yet.. the old URLs will work with the old and new script until they change the site in June.  Just make sure that all the urls (old-style) have lat= lon= values in them and you're good to go.

So when is this switchover necessary? As of now my forecast still works.

The switchover is needed when they do the cutover on forecast.weather.gov, then the old V4.02 script will stop working, and only the V5.nn script will work.  They've set June 19th, 2017 as the next cutover date.  DaculaWeather posted that message from the NWS here.

Outstanding issues with using the advforecast2.php V5.nn are still:
1) no Outlook type and only some Statement type alerts appear in the api.weather.gov JSON feed
2) still some issues with Watch/Warning/Advisory alerts too.. sometimes duplicates, sometimes just missing.
3) may continue to be foibles with the text forecast (like rain amounts when snow is forecast) with the JSON point-forecast from api.weather.gov.
I'm hoping that all those get worked out in the remaining time until the June 19, 2017 date...
I'm going to leave advforecast2.php V5.01 on my site (and in the template distribution) for now.  The updated DualImage.php (and icons) are compatible with both V4.x and V5.x of the advforecast2.php scripts.

Do make sure your URLs all have lat=...&lon=... values in them to be usable with both old and new scripts, otherwise it will fail with the new (which only uses the lat/lon values as they are deprecating the MapClick.php script for the new forecast.weather.gov site)

I've just updated the script to 5.02 - 22-May-2017.

The NWS JSON now includes a field for the rising/falling temperature indicators, so I added that to the code.

As a side note, I noticed that the api.weather.gov alerts index now includes Statement types.  Don't know about the missing Outlook type advisories, but they're not scheduled to implement until June so there's a bit of time to have it return :)

The first several text forecasts are weirding off.  Mine says:  "Sunny, with a high near 71. North northwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 1.1472352069703E+37 mph."  It started today with version 5.01 and still there after upgrade to 5.02.  I'll be glad when it returns to normal.

Not seeing that on mine under 5.02, Bunty. "Sunny, with a high near 104. South southwest wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph." Maybe a local glitch?

Oooh.. that is very strange.  Next time it happens, please make a copy of the JSON file from your ./cache/ directory.  The forecast section of the JSON from the API is presented 'as-is' with no processing by the script, so it is really a fault with the text provided by the API from api-v2.weather.gov site.  I think that 1.14E+37 wind speed exceeds that of light, so some alternative universe may be involved :)

LOL,  No more problem.  It went away on its own for now.

OBSERVATION:
For the new forecast method, the brief description is more wordy.

"Showers And T-Storms" vs "T-storms"
"Rain Showers" vs "Showers"

Not sure why "Mostly Clear then Patchy Fog" shows two different ways. ("Mostly Clear...then Patchy...Fog" vs "Mostly Clear then...Patchy Fog")
See "ForecastB_old" & "ForecastB_new" attached.

Clearly I need to change some formatting to keep the days from running together, I never had this problem in the past.

QUESTION:
How do I keep "T-Storms" as one word? (in some of the new forecasts it is split between two lines of text) It appears the capital "S" in "Storms" is causing this ("T-Storms" vs "T-storms").

In line 1375 of 'advforecast2.php' replace
Code: [Select]
  $shortCond = str_replace('hunderstorm',"-Storm",$condition);
with
Code: [Select]
  $shortCond = str_replace('hunderstorm',"_Storm",$condition);
An underscore won't automatically divide at a line-end.

Line 1827 requires similar modification.

It's the browser that decides that a dash/hyphen (-) is a good place to wrap text.  the fix above will handle that, but all the outputs for Thunderstorm will be T_Storm instead.

Yes, the API version seems to have a more verbose engine for conditions than the current version.. that's the NWS.  I just retrieve and format 'em :)

Thanks, that worked.

I was hoping I could just change that "S" to lower case, but it didn't correct the problem. Not sure why the lower case version from the original advforecast2.php is handled differently by the same browser with nothing else changed.

I may just end up replacing "Thunderstorms" with "Storms".
