I haven't seen any of that switching here, it's been rock solid.

Mine was down yesterday afternoon around 4 pm.  When I checked it about 8 pm, it was back up.  Been up every time I've checked it today so far.  Knock on wood...

It makes you wonder if certain areas/zones are having more issues. Since I've started using the new forecast script, I've never seen the zone forecast and I'm on all the time.

For some reason the new advforecast2.php wasn't kicking in the zone forecast. I was getting a message forecast unavailable server down or something like that.

That was likely due to the API server returning a 4xx code instead of the 503 code they use to indicate a point-forecast wasn't available.  The forecast-v3.weather.gov and api.weather.gov sites both had major issues the last couple of days.

Thanks Ken, hope they get it straightened out before the full implementation. I'm sticking with the old script until I have to switch over.

Mine is back to proper operation on the new server but when it fails it's normally not my whole cities list - rather just different cities all in AZ but some even from the same forecast office.

My JSON forecast isn't being updated, so I've reverted to advforecast2.

A wise move, Jerry... a lot of instability with forecast-v3.weather.gov and api.weather.gov lately.

Fingers crossed that by April 3, it will be stable and the April 4 conversion of forecast.weather.gov goes smoothly for them.

We only have to convert to the JSON-based version AFTER the forecast.weather.gov site converts on April 4.  I'll release the 'final' script updates on the day the NWS converts.. "install no software before it's time"

I had to teamviewer in to solve an issue, so I reverted today. Working well now.

Up until yesterday my JSON page was working well except for the long load times but now it's been hanging since 'Updated: 3:57PM EDT, March 17, 2017 '  and load times have now really grown.  Old page working fine.

Ken, another minor and rare but nonetheless annoying glitch.

Today the dashboard window has widened a bit and gone outside the narrow parameters. I think the problem is "Thunderstorms", which appears in each of the forecasts shown. It is slightly wider than the icon and the three together push the window out.

If I'm right (for once), can it be changed to "T'storms" instead? Doesn't matter in the forecast body, of course, as there's plenty of room there.

Thanks.

For awhile now, I seem to be getting the zone forecasts during the day, then at night it switches back.

interesting, mine switches based on the time also. Its consistent... works for early and mid morning forecast releases but early afternoon and evening releases are always zone.

Sir Ken, can I use the dualimage script to my current ajax or exclusive only for NWS forecast users?

Hi Mike,
While the DualImage.php script can be used to generate images, neither the WeatherUnderground (WU-forecast.php) nor the Environment Canada (ec-forecast.php) forecasts include 6-hr periods, so neither of those scripts will produce dual images.  The 6-hr forecasts are applicable only to the NOAA-NWS forecasts at this time (so only for USA forecasts).

Yep.. I'm getting that too.  Seems their 'load-point-forecast-into-database' is not working transparently.. they shut off the point forecast while that's happening, so the Zone forecast (which always seems to be available) is shown instead.  Fortunately, the script does handle that failover automatically (now).

Biding my time until the 4-April-2017 cutover...

I made the changes and it seems to be working OK. At first the text in the forecast spilled out of the white frame, but I applied the last version and it fixed that issue.

The icons and forecast description at the top seem small, but when I enlarged them with the pixel settings the text exceeded the normal box again.

Is there a way to change just the icons (and the associated description) and not affect the forecast text below?

See http://rogerscityweather.com/wxforecast.php.

Thanks,

Greg H.

Looks like the date has moved again
Quote
Updated to change implementation date to on or about Monday, April 24, 2017

On or about Monday, April 24 2017, the National Centers for
Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Central Operations (NCO) will implement a
major change to its Point Forecast application at:

http://forecast.weather.gov

The Public Information Statement (PNS) issued on October 17,
2016, to collect comments on this intended change is online at:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/pns16-35forecastgov.htm

Comments on these changes were generally favorable so implementation of
the new Point Forecast application on or about April 24, 2017, is now
planned. The purpose of these changes is to create a more usable
interface with no duplication of service to users while providing a more modern service-oriented data structure.

The October 17 PNS provided details on changes that will be made to a
variety of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) in association with this
implementation. Partners and users are encouraged to refer to this PNS
for the specific technical details.
