Meteobridge data question.
« on: January 05, 2017, 09:07:25 AM »
Hi,

Currently using a Davis Vantage Vue console/ISS with weatherlink, this is plugged into a Notepad that is on 24/7, I then view the data via the Davis app on my Android phone.

Although this process does work, over the years I've managed to burn through three old Notepads which isn't ideal.

I'm thinking about converting to the Meteobridge route but have a couple of questions before I jump in (please bare with me as it's new to me) -

As it stand with my current set-up the data is available for me to review on the phone 24/7, additionally, the data is automatically downloaded onto the Notepad so I have archived history from day one of the weather station - If I convert to Meteobridge am I able to download the historical weather data file or can you only ever see the current weather ?

I'm guessing I will not be able to use Meteobridge to upload data and use the Vantage Vue direct to my Notepad at the same time ?

Ultimately I don't want to lose the ability to have archived data files on my PC, but happy to be able to download this data if its available via the Meteobridge or other means.

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks.

Thanks.

Your guess is not correct.  Port 22222 is your friend.  http://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Stations    And there is a "secret URL" that allows you to log into the MB box over the web to see live data any time you want.

Theoretically you have also these two options:
- let MB send the data on some server (i.e. create your own page with a database)
- or as far as I know the Meteobridge Pro version does have a logger which can log data and save history, but it comes at a price, it is a lot more expensive than the standard MB

Thanks for the reply.

Where would you start with creating your own webpage..........is there a webpage worth looking at ?

It really depends what exactly you want.
You have many options.

Easiest option: use MB to send data directly to some weather network, MB has built-in many options (most people would peobably say Weather underground straight away, but I wouldnt encourage you to do so as it is becoming more and more problematic and unreliable, other options available in MB are eg. CWOP, WeatherCloud etc.). The advantage of this is that you do not need your own server or a webhosting and a domain, but the disadvantage is that you are only limited to whatever data display that particular website offers and the data is not saved on your end but at the servers of that provider.

Another option: register a domain and a hosting and create your own website. If you can code you could build your own website using HTML, PHP etc. If not, you could use one of the website templates for these purposes. There are several and they are all slightly different and neither of them is the "best" - it really depends on what you want and based on that you choose the one that is best for you.

The sky's the limit on webpages from MB!  Of course I'd start with the canned templates that come with MB.  :)  http://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Templates  And then you could run Ken's Saratoga templates, Meteopage, custom with steel series gauges etc.

But there is really no need to do that unless you want to since your current PC app can access MB via Port 22222 as I already mentioned.  Of course setting up your own database is kinda neat, too.  Like https://www.stevejenkins.com/blog/2015/02/storing-weather-station-data-mysql-meteobridge/
