Mixed bag / sleet question
« on: December 28, 2015, 05:41:13 PM »
My first winter event as a CoCoRaHS volunteer will be one to test me: Snow to sleet to (maybe) freezing rain to just rain.  Most of the frozen stuff happens during the pre-dawn hours  :-(.

I know what to do with the catch that I'm going to melt (if I still need to melt it) and how to measure / report snowfall and ice, should I get to any of it before that all melts. What I see no mention of is sleet. Is there some way to report the accumulation amount of frozen sleet? Is it even necessary?

Thanks in advance!

Minutes after sending this I got an email from our local coordinator which said, among other things:

Remember that snow and sleet are reported as "snowfall." Freezing rain is reported as "precipitation" (rainfall).

Any further tips on handling mixed precipitation would be appreciated.

Yes, I know about those. A suggestion is to add the word "sleet" to the PDF presentation.
