Weather Folklore / "When. . ." - Cause & Effect Folklore Sayings
« Last post by BKS97 on April 21, 2024, 10:28:50 AM »
Through the centuries, common folk on farms and in villages were ever mindful of changing weather conditions and came up with folklore sayings to express what they had observed living close to the land.  Many of their expressions are humble cause and effect observations about the weather that they garnered from tending their crops and animals, watching the sky or putting a finger to the wind:  “When such and such occurs, this is what will follow.”  Here are some of my favorites:

When pigs carry sticks, the clouds will play tricks;
when they lie in the mud, no fears of a flood.

When corn fodder stands all dry and crisp, go on your outing,
there's no great risk.

When the wind is out of the east, ‘tis neither good for man nor beast.

When sheep gather in a huddle, tomorrow we will have a puddle.

When oak is out before the ash, ‘twill be a summer of wet and splash.
But if the ash before the oak, ‘twill be a summer of fire and smoke.

When March blows its horn, your barn will be filled with hay and corn.

When the forest murmurs and the mountain roars,
then close your windows and shut your doors.

When the ass begins to bray, surely rain will come that day.

When chickens scratch together, there’s sure to be foul weather.

When ditches and ponds offend the nose, look for rain and stormy blows.

When clouds are upon the hills, they'll come down by the mills.

When the goose flies high, fair weather. If the goose flies low, foul weather.

When a cow tries to scratch her ear, it means a shower is very near.

AcuRite Weather Stations / Re: Acurite Wireless Signal Strength FIX!!!
« Last post by DoctorKnow on April 21, 2024, 08:44:18 AM »
So today, it is raining, and the display above will not receive the signal, while the access is picking it up, however it too had to be moved slightly. The signal from the outdoor sensor is just not very strong. Has anyone a good recommendation for another receive antenna for 433mhz besides these spring antennas? Something directional?

Add years that you have dailynoaareports this way (notice folder loc identified where all past dailynoaareports are located...
Code: [Select]
$year = "2024";         # Default Year to parse
$loc = "./dailynoaareports/";            # Location of dailynoaareportmyyyy.htm
$loc2 = "./";                            # Location of dailynoaareport.htm
$season_start = 1;      # Month Number that Rain Season Starts

# Add which years of data you have to the array using the example
# below:

$years_available = array("2023","2022","2021","2020","2019","2018","2017","2016","2015","2014","2013","2012","2011","2010","2009","2008","2007","2006","2005","2004","2003","2002","2001","2000","1999","1998","1997");

Hi all

I'm sure this is a dumb question that has a simple answer.
My rain page https://mcdconcepts.com.au/wxraindetail.php?year=2024 works well, but I don't know how to add other years.
This is the code.

$year = "2024";         # Default Year to parse
$loc = "./";            # Location of dailynoaareport.htm
$season_start = 1;      # Month Number that Rain Season Starts

# Add which years of data you have to the array using the example
# below:

$years_available = array("2024");

Any help is appreciated.
Chris

Yes, the Reolink software allows a time stamp and short camera description. You can select the time format you want.
The camera link above shows the stamp on the 3 cameras setup to ftp for the website.

RCL511WA are the models, being used here, even work well below zero during the winter months.

Heaven forbid somebody technical who works for the vendor this forum is associated with actually volunteers to help provide support as a volunteer here.  That can't be permitted. There must be nefarious things happening or planned.

(sheesh - exactly what is WRONG with you people ???)

I guess "you people" don't know what "lol" means....

Also, thank you for this information about Reolink cameras. The function of directly sending images to FTP, bypassing computer programs, is certainly very useful in weather viewing.

I have an additional question for Reolink users. Is it possible to place a field with the date and time on the image, possibly an additional field with a title or a short description?

I was lucky that it rained the next night and I could check whether the settings would work.

After changes as in the image, rainfall resets at 00:00.

Success.
