Title: Moved Cumulus from Win7 laptop to Win10 PC and no more worky
Post by: boss281 on October 16, 2018, 07:40:01 PM
Spent 4 hours on this am frustrated at this point.

Have had Cumulus running on a Windows 7 laptop.  Davis Vantage Pro 2, data logger USB connection to laptop.  Laptop died, but I had the data and ini file backed up.

Moved the console to a Windows 10 desktop, installed software, plugged it in, configured WeatherLink for USB, works fine.

Downloaded the CP210x drivers, went into device manager, and do NOT see any com ports listed.  In fact, none of my machines have COM ports listed in the device manager.  Not sure how I even got Cumulus running on the win7 machine at this point, but it did.

So, ideas for the Windows 10 desktop?

Probably has to do with unsigned CP210x driver. Or rather a compatibility problem that requires the driver be used unsigned.

Welllll, that doesn't explain why the original setup is no longer working!  I was able to recover the original laptop (it seemed to be doing an update of some sort) and now it doesn't work there either except Weatherlink through USB.  It's not clear the cp210x drivers are installing well on either machine.

Looks like it's working now. I'm seeing new data on WU posted by Cumulus. Which machine are you using now?

UPDATE: actually it is not. WU plays tricks on you sometimes. Doesn't refresh correctly.

Nope, coming from WeatherLink until I figure it out. Not running Cumulus right now...

No expert on this, but doesn't WeatherLink have to be set to Serial mode, not USB?

Got up early to fix this, driving me nuts.

I'm back on the laptop where everything WAS working just fine, which has Windows 7 installed.  I can't seem to get the Silicon drivers CP210x working, period.

I opened up WeatherLink, and tried in USB mode.  Everything connects fine, but of course you have the dreaded latency issue using the laptop.  If I switch to Serial, it can't find an open serial port.  The drivers are supposed to fix that issue.

So if WeatherLink won't work in this mode, then Cumulus won't.  For the life of me I'm stumped on what changed.  Once I get that working, then I'll try the Windows 10 machine, where I want the console hooked permanently.  I'll call Davis tomorrow when I have the day off and see if they can figure it out.  Pisses me off.

I also have a weatherbridge WIFI device sitting here, maybe I should just concentrate on that.

There is a utility or process, but I haven't searched for it, to change the logger from USB to serial if it has been run by WL in USB.

Good luck,
Paul
