The installation of VirtualVP and the associated N8VBvCOM driver went very smoothly. After you install it just go to the folder you installed it in and run VComConfigurator.exe. Here is a screen shot of my setup.

No problems here either. I run 3 virtual serial ports & a LAN virtual port!

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I have VVP and the driver running fine right now. I'm running VWS, WinAPRS, and sometimes WeatherLink on VVP. Soon, I plan on adding Weather Display.

I also have 2 serial ports on the computer motherboard, and an 8 port Axxon  PCI serial card.

That makes 10 hardware serial ports, 8 virtual ports = 18 ports.

Some of my apps can only use COMs 1-4, some 1-8, and some any port.

(Heh. It seems like I need to create a programs vs. ports map to figure this out, eh?)

In any case, the root question is, has anyone modified the port assignments in the N8VBvCOM driver from the stock configuration? I might need to remap some ports to match some apps.

Yep, I have -- works just fine!  Just pick unused ports to fill in the left side, pick your favorite corresponding number(s) on the right, and try to remember what you have pointing where (that's the tricky part ;-))

Cool! Thanks, Mike.

One other thing I forgot to mention. The N8VBvCOM driver's ports aren't listed in the COM ports section of the Device Manager. If you have a multiport device of some sort (PCI or USB), it's possible for Windows to assign a COM port # to a hardware port that the driver is also using.

I figured that out and mapped the hardware ports around the virtual ports. I dunno what would happen with real and virtual ports that conflicted, but I suspect it wouldn't be pretty.
