The recent snow storm in Michigan seemed to have caught the forecasters off guard. A few days ago there was no storm in the forecast. Then they saw its potential development. It started snowing here yesterday morning. Many places closed during the afternoon and some schools dismissed early. Nearlyevery school in our county is closed today. This was the second day in less than a week that nearly every school closed.
I took several measurements, and we received 12 inches in my area from this snow event. There were reports of 17 inches about 30 miles north. Yesterday afternoon I shoveled snow while it was still coming down, and exactly one hour later I went out and measured 4 additional inches. They we BIIIGGG flakes. Last night one of the meteorologists said that a viewer had emailed him saying that it looked like someone was having a major pillow fight outside -- and that's exactly how it looked!
This wasn't even a blizzard, as there wasn't much wind. It was just a long and heavy snow.
