Title: Lightening Sprites Over Oklahoma
Post by: Bunty on May 31, 2018, 02:35:55 PM
Didn't know these things existed.  Since they only last as long as lightening they're hard to capture in a photograph.

That is a good one. I agree that it is the best that I have seen.

I have seen video's of them taken from the Colorado Rockies looking east into Kansas.

There was a PBS program a few years ago called "At the edge of space". It covered Sprites, and other phenomena.

The PBS site only shows a preview now, but I found it on YouTube (https://youtu.be/Tfryt3TILx0).

I was going to mention that PBS "Nova" series program episode too (Season 40, Episode 23).
Here's the program link (below), it has a description, etc., and a full transcript. PBS now only makes program streams available for a short time, or to members (Passport), or you can buy a DVD/Bluray.
Can't blame them, they have to pay for producing this good stuff.
It was a danged good program, those sprites (and blue jets, etc) are scary weird stuff (Wikipedia link at bottom).
