It just dried out. I would seal the back very well where the cable goes in. I'm filling that area with dielectric grease now after killing 2 cameras.

Don't know Randy. Interesting to say the least.

Well dammit. I put the Sharx up Sunday and it rained today and it cut off. It's getting returned. Apparently these cams are not weatherproof as stated. Still looking for one that is.

The original Hikvision I bought over a year ago is still going strong. Its my south camera. I have others in service also close to the same time period. But also had a couple go bad. Total rain exposure has been 45".

I mentioned before water proof the connections with the rubber splicing tape and especially fill the area where cord goes into back of camera with dielectric grease. I think this is the area most likely allowing water into camera.

Yeah I know. But seriously should we have to seal? They shouldn't say weatherproof if it's not. False advertisement but not surprised.

Guess I really need to get down to Nelly's and buy one.  Had a Foscam go bad on me last fall and so much real life stuff going on that I haven't got the time.  I have 20 grand of work I need to do on the house also.

I just bought these 2 for surveilance, one for the backyard and one for our driveway.

Driveway: Hikvision DS-2CD2142FWD-I Dome: http://overseas.hikvision.com/en/Products_accessries_158_i5605.html
Backyard: Hikvision DS-2CD2612F-I Variofokal: http://overseas.hikvision.com/en/Products_accessries_160_i4320.html

My foscam 8906 is now going to be weather camera, anf my Foscam 9803 facing south as weather camera.

The image DS-2CD2142FWD-I is outstanding, incredible image and in the night it´s even more outstanding

I put the Hikie back up. I wrapped that thing up like a patient in an emergency room.
Sending the Sharx back for a full refund with Amazon in the morning . Already got a shipping label. Was not impressed with the Sharx anyway.

Whoever has one of these cams make sure you seal with 3m tape around the reset button on the back of the camera. Thats where my water got in.

The F series with the SD card slot has the reset button protected behind the small cover located on the bottom. This would probably be a better option if the reset button on the original series has leak issues. Something to think about on future purchases.

I'm looking to get the DS-2CD2035-I, the seller XinRay Opto-electronic Tech on aliexpress lists it with two choices 480TVL and 600TVL which has me confused. Do they mean 4mm or 6mm lens or something else? I had thought 600TVL< 1080P which this is advertised as having, color me confused?
Does anyone understand what they mean? (link to the one I'm loking at - http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2015-New-V5-2-5-Hikvision-DS-2CD2032F-I-replace-DS-2CD2032-I-1080P-POE-with/32419864321.html )
Thanks.

Looking at he link you provided the camera is 4mm.
I believe the 480tvl and 600tvl are regards to the pixel resolution.
480tvl - 510x492
600tvl - 768x494

I think....

Hello,

Does anyone in this forum have a Hikvision Dome PTZ camera? Does anyone know a US based Hikvision vendor that is customer friendly enough to answer pre-sale email questions and/or talk briefly on the telephone?

Thank you.

"I have this

Thank you. I notice that the tilt range is only 0° to 75°. I would want a camera that at least goes to horizontal so the lens angle of view would see the sky. This, however, is my problem. I purchased a PTZ that produces beautiful pictures but the dome transitions from a vertical cylinder to a hemisphere at the horizontal lens position and is poorly machined at that intersection which causes a badly blurred picture at the horizon and a few degrees above and below.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

George

Thanks Paul and Erik,

I spoke to a friend that claims to be in the know about this and he reckons that the sensor is the same on all models, just the lens changes, bigger size equals more zoomed in image. He thinks the TVL's indicated are incorrect and are a misunderstanding by the seller. I've gone for the 4mm one, looking forward to getting it installed.

Finally got this installed today.
Using IPTimelapse to upload the images. The captured images are not as good as the live view and smallest size I can choose is 720p on the Hikvision, for now i'm resizing in the browser.
Does anyone know if its possible to resize before upload automatically in IPTimelapse?, havent been able to figure that out?

Supercell, you can upload up to three resized (thumbnail) images in IPTimelapse.  Go to Setup->Exposure tab page.  On the left are the thumbnail options.  Check the box and enter the image width you need and enter a name. The image height is auto scaled. That's pretty much it.  If you want only the thumbnail to upload then check that box on the FTP setting page.  Also check for the latest updates at iptimelapse.com

Not to hijack this discussion, but Mike how do you go about getting a new license to upgrade to 2.7 from 2.4?

Thanks
Tony
