Meteotemplate - New Block – GFS
« Reply #7056 on: May 30, 2017, 07:50:11 AM »
New Block – GFS

Hi guys,
I have always wanted to create a block for the GFS (Global Forecast System) model. It was, however, relatively difficult to find usable data and there was quite a lot of information that somehow needed to be squeezed into a block.
Now finally I think it is in a state I wanted it to be and is definitely one of the most complex and informative blocks.

Main features:
– GFS model forecast for the Northern Hemisphere for the upcoming 16 days (sometimes you will less, this depends on which time of the day you look at it, the model calculation takes a lot of time)
– overview meteogram
– all the ensembles for the different parameters (temperature, precipitation, pressure, wind speed)
– interactive tables for all parameters (temperature, precipitation, dew point, wind speed, humidity, wind gust, pressure) and the meteogram
– literally hundreds of maps, regions include Europe and North America, Caribbean and Middle East. There are both regional as well as more global maps of temperature, wind speed, dew point, temperature anomaly, precipitation, snow depth, CAPE and wind gust. Using a slider below the map you can move in time.
– information about the GFS model as such

Best thing would be to see it for yourself, no setup required, works out of the box and data is reloaded every 3 hours 🙂

DEMO: http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/indexBlockDemoWide.php?block=gfs

Enjoy

Hi Jachym
How about the UK Met office warnings as a block, i did mention it not long back but seen as you are asking now ;)
Data is available through their Datapoint so if someone wants to use the block they would have to sign up to the
Met's datapoint and get an api key that allows use of  a lot of data from the Met

Here is their product list but, i cannot find the warnings on there,  http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint/product/list

But they are available through RSS

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/guide/weather/rss

Also, with the warnings block i have atm, its the regional one, is there a way for the block to
only show when there is a warning?
Kind regards
Bashy

Hi Bashy,
I can put it on my to-do list, but as a priority I want to do things that are not available at all yet, especially countries which have no or just a few blocks, no warnings at all etc. There is already a warnings block for the U.K. which is usable (the regional one). Im not saying this cannot be done, but probably not soon because I just have too many suggestions and ideas and need to prioritize ;)

I remember now, I was looking at this while creating other blocks using MetOffice and it wasnt (and still isnt) there so for now I think what is available is sufficient. Thats the problem with Europe that the centralized source (meteoalarm) gives very little details and making a specific block for each country is just not feasible.

Heres another thought, how about a plugin that can do this

http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/qchart/E9093?date=20170530&addnl=D7935&addnl=EGUL&addnl=EGUN&addnl=EGYM&Add+to+charts=Add+to+charts&.cgifields=addnl

This would be world wide mind, but being able to compare station data to a selection
of local stations would be brill, but not using gladstones data mind, as you can see, the
Met Office station at Marham is having chickens lol
Kind regards

Already seen and using that one, i was on about being able to do what you can on CWOP, compare against
multiple local stations as a quality check

Poo, forgot to ask, how can i add the menu icon to the help area please?
Kind regards

Meteobridge – Backport

Hi guys,

I have some very good news for Meteobridge users. As you know from my previous post, Meteobridge updates are now free only for two years and after that you need to pay extra 20 euros for another 2 years of support. In case of Meteotemplate the problem was that the Meteobridge templates were missing the UNIX timestamp parameter, which in practice means you could not do a manual HTTP request for the API script and therefore rely on the built-in one, which is hard-coded and potentially problematic in case I need to make some modifications to the API.

Boris added the UNIX timestamp parameter to the Meteobridge templates, but this update was part of version 3.3, which is no longer available to users who did not pay for the extra support and have been using Meteobridge for more than 2 years.

The good news now is that after some discussion with Boris he agreed to do a backport – this means ALL users, regardless of whether they paid extra or not, will get this update as part of version 3.2. This actually means the potential API problem is solved because in case I really need to modify the API, you will have to set up the request manually, but you will still be able to do it, so even users who do not want to pay for the extra support, will be able to update Meteotemplate

Hi Jachym

Thanks for the heads up re icons and footer, I hit a small snag, although i have managed to add the menu, the fa fa-bars icon is a
little smaller than the rest as seen here between Webcam and Table

Code i used was copied from table icon

Code: [Select]
<div class="iconHelpDiv">
<span class="fa fa-bars helpIcon"></span><br><?php echo lang('menu','c')?>
</div>

Any advice please?

ps, always wondered, what do the letters mean, e.g. the 'c' in this part

Code: [Select]
<?php echo lang('menu','c')?>
pps, well done re meteobridge, i was following the concerns

Thanks

Hi guys,
I've created something similar as a plugin page about GFS, Reading, UKMO ecc. ecc.
