I have heard that cyclones move in the opposite direction than hurricanes because they're in the southern hemisphere. Recently we saw a documentary that said they move in the same direction. Which one is right? I mean the rotation.

My understanding is cyclones, hurricanes, typhoons all are the same basically and rotate the same direction if they are in the same hemisphere. One direction in the northern and the other direction in the southern hemisphere. The different names are from their location. Hurricanes are generally around the U.S. while cyclones near India and Indian ocean while typhoons are in the west pacific (far East) region.

Just to further expand on this, they are named hurricanes for the Atlantic, and eastern Pacific oceans, typhoons for the western Pacific, and cyclones for the Indian ocean. The "coriolis effect" is what dictates the direction of circulation of low and high pressure as well as global weather as a whole. As weird as it may seem for us north of the equator, in the south, lows spin clockwise, highs counterclockwise. :-k

Not to forget they are also called cyclones in the south and south west Pacific e.g. Fiji, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, eastern Australia.

Then you have the Anti-cyclone... winds rotating around a high pressure center, whereas cyclones rotate inward toward a low pressure system. Good weather vrs Bad weather. So, a hurricane is a cyclone by strict definition,... but that takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?

The only difference between a hurricane, a cyclone, and a typhoon is the location where the storm occurs.

Cyclone is an atmospheric system of rapidly circulating air massed about a low-pressure center which causes destructive weather. Storms that begin in the Southern Pacific are called cyclones. Hurricane is a rotating column of air ranging in width from a few yards to more than a mile and has a destructive high speed.
Both tornado and hurricane both rotate clockwise in the southern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere.

Albeit rare, there are anticyclonic tornadoes.

All are typically Tropical Revolving Storms, regardless of the hemisphere or rotation the end result is much the same, destruction

Cyclones, hurricanes, and typhoons are all the same freaks of nature I believe.
"Typhoon" comes directly from the Chinese pronunciation "Tai-Feng". Hurricanes around the Philippines / Taiwan do tend to end up along the South China Coast, we simply picked the Chinese name and English-ed it the best way we could !
