WU is NOT saying goodbye to Webcams
« on: December 11, 2017, 03:20:27 PM »
I didn't see any follow-ups to the numerous posts discussing WU's decision to discontinue webcams.  They have apparently done an about-face and are not discontinuing the service:

http://help.wunderground.com/knowledgebase/articles/1821811-wu-says-goodbye-to-webcams

Update Dec. 7, 2017:

We heard from many, many of you about how much you like and rely on our webcam product. So we will not discontinue the product as we stated in November. We will continue to allow users to add webcams to the Weather Underground network and everyone can view images from connected webcams.

Thank you for your passionate support and apologies for any inconvenience we caused.

That being said, I haven't been able to connect my webcam to WU for the last few days.  Perhaps they are performing server upgrades?

Perhaps, the more things change at WU, the more they remain the same...

Sheesh. And when I try to upload I get this:
ftp> Connected to webcam.wunderground.com.
open webcam.wunderground.com

When they started having the 'max users' issue, I switched to having them 'pull' using HTTP from the image instead.. it's hosted on a dedicated XAMPP server and just provides the webcam image.  No more 'max users' issue for me.

I am glad they re-thought their discontinuation.. now if they'll just polish it back up so no more 'max users'.  Maybe they thought that removing the Webcam layer in the WU app was negative marketing (I hope).

Not sure this changes anything.  I haven't had camera picture for a week or so.  No sign it will get any better.  Other cameras in my area are
not showing on the map.   This URL vs FTP stuff just makes my head hurt.  Que Sera, Sera

One of my cameras is still working, but I can't seem to get it to show up associated with my station.

Time will tell.  Not getting my hopes too much though. Resources and support were driving factors behind the initial decision.
This does seem encouraging though.  Hoping for the best. I've invested a lot of $ and a ton of time to get squared away with a nice setup.

Glad to hear this, now it's a waiting game to see if it shows up. Mine has not been active in almost 2 weeks!
