Pics of the Atlas from the mothership testing ground.
« on: October 16, 2017, 04:36:12 PM »
I went to a wedding this weekend and zipped by the Acurite mothership to see if they had some kind of testing setup and dive their dumpster. They did and the dumpster was filed with opaque bags. :) I took some pictures of their setup and the Atlas. Looks nice. The fan was whirring even in the extreme overcast. They have a nice Davis setup, for comparison probably. A few 5-in-1s around with no fans whirring.

I did notice that the stations looked new. By that I mean they didn't have that weathered sorta beat up look stations get after months in the sun and other elements. If they have been then AWESOME! because they looked soooooooooooo good. Miles and miles ahead of the 5-in-1s and the Davis they had in the little testing field. They look good in general and got compliments from my wife. Nary an eye roll when I said I WANT THAT! If they look new because they've been out for a little while please please please be because batches of stations have samples tested!

ME WANT ATLAS!

Well ... I have accused them of not even having a prototype, let alone any real world beta testing of the Atlas. So does this prove that they at least have a prototype of the low end version of Atlas? Maybe, maybe not, but I suspect most of the enthusiasts on this forum are most interested in the Elite, not so much in the 7/8 all in one unit.

I wish I was a shill. I'd hopefully have a replacement for my failed 5-in-1 that had a barely working fan even with the two panel top and an anemometer that never went above 22 mph. I'm just a weather nerd that's lurked here for years and finally had something worth contributing.

I suspect most of the enthusiasts on this forum are most interested in the Elite, not so much in the 7/8 all in one unit.

Definitely: just the Elite.

If it ever sees the light of day.  Still no FCC approval (they are likely using Part 15 for these samples) on production models.

From what I understand is the Atlas 7/8 Anemometer can be separated from the Mother ship if you buy the optional extension cable. I would be interested with this unit if it is compatible with the 06058M HD Display as I have two of them............

I would be curious as to how easy snow can pile up underneath the anemometer and obstruct it?

Designs like this (Davis Vue, 5in1, etc) do not do well with snow.  My experience the snow does pile up and obstruct the anemometer.

Yeah oh well. I will try some silicone spray on my 5-in-1 this season.
But if I ever have to buy another weather station (and I'm sure I will) it will have a separate
Anemometer like the big Davis (forgot the name, but you know...)

Here is one of the Feature from the Atlas 7/8 Specifications............

•   Enhance the accuracy of wind readings by adding
on the optional extension kit, which includes 30-feet
of cable for optimal anemometer placement

Well if it is now available before Black Friday, they might as well wait until next year.

I just noticed this on the pdf info sheet-- any further info? This seems distinct from WU

who share weather with each other, and are even
picked up by nearby TV stations to share hyper-local
weather conditions"

Either it's WU or WeatherBug. There no way AcuRite built an entire web presence to rival those two.
