Vantage Vue Weather Vane Not Working - How I fixed mine
« on: July 20, 2017, 06:20:30 PM »
I've been having a problem with my vantage vue with the wind direction not changing for the last several weeks.

I finally went and took it down and tore it apart to see what was going on.

The vantage vue has a magnetic sensor with a counter weight on it inside the unit.  In my case, that counter weight and magnet assembly had broken off inside the unit.

My theory is that here in the desert we get these dust devils that can be pretty strong at times and I think one of them (or many) must have hit the unit and caused the wind vane to spin rapidly and wildly back and forth, breaking the way the counterweight and sensor was held to the top of the rotating shaft.

I simply used a little JB Weld and made sure to align it properly.

I did see the sticky on sending units in to get refurbed, but this seemed like a quick and easy way to fix it.

Just posting this because I had done a bunch of searching on it, but hadn't seen anyone really address what my issue was.

Here's an image of the part in question.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted and I just noticed my weather station signature is not updating.

Welp, Time to dig into another mystery!

I had same problem yesterday my wind direction on davis vantage vue just stopped working was stuck at south on the console
resetting power off console and davis done nothing.
I checked what the guy said above but mine was not broke and everything was tight.

I took the davis apart dismantle a clean reassemble everything still not working .
Took it apart again cleaned the counter weight cleaned the magnet
cleaned the bottom of the wireless sensor transmitter where it reads the data.
put it back together and now its working again.

Me too, the same problem. No wind direction indication on the console and stuck at north on Wunderground.
I opened the unit, cleaned everything but is still not working. Is there anything missing?

everything looks ok . there is not much to it when you open it up. one other thing i did do was place a magnet at the sensor and on the bottom on the antenna casing . you can see the circuit board through the gel, i placed my magnet here for a few secs moved it about over components .  i was just playing about no idea if it actually did help anything but my station started working again and has been working since that day .
