Ignore topic?
« on: December 09, 2015, 01:26:13 PM »
I see the option to ignore by user, or ignore by area.
I would like to ignore (or kind of "unsubscribe") a particular topic/thread. I don't want to block out entire subjects or users.
Is that possible?

Explain a bit further what you want to accomplish.  Have you posted to the thread?  You might be able to get somewhere by deleting any posts you made in it, but you can't completely hide the thread from your view.

It was a thread that I posted to previously, but no longer have interest in. I'll try deleting my post and see if that does anything.

"Remove" is available only for topics that I originated. This particular topic was not one that I started.

I deleted one of my own posts as a test prior to mentioning it and it was not in a thread I started.

But I don't know if it will help for what you want to do.  There is no Unsubscribe in this forum software that I know of that works the way it does in VBB forum software.

I'm not sure what you want to do either, but there are a couple of options you can engage in your profile to ignore boards and/or ignore users.

If you just want to opt-out of notifications about updates to a topic you posted in, there's an "Unnotify" to turn off notifications in the thread. (at the bottom of the thread)

Does any of that help?

I normally check "Show new replies to your posts" first. That is the area that I would like to filter out specific threads/topics. I already disabled the "notify" option for the topic that I don't want.

No big deal, I was just wondering if there was a way to filter out threads/topics that I don't want to see appearing in my "new replies" area. I didn't want to filter out users or areas though.

There ARE a few I would add to such a list.

Or conversely a 'Subscribed' list like there is in VBulletin.  View only those, not see everything else.

***BUMP***  Any progress on this?  History shows lots of discussion on SMF fora, but I never could figure out if it actually exists.  Case in point: I have no interest in Bloomsky whatsoever, but the posts are flooding the place.  Would love to be able to IGNORE them (or and  forum for that matter)

I checked that one a long time ago. Go to profile look for ignore boards.

Thank you Randy!
I didn't even that existed. That makes viewing the board much more enjoyable.

But, there is a caveat here. The last sentence in the ignore boards section states the following: "When using the 'unread replies' link, new posts in an ignored board will still be shown." So, it appears that using the Unread Replies link will still show you any new posts made to the ignored board...

I don't know about that, I use Show unread posts since last visit and any board ignored doesn't show up.

I did some testing too and can't seem to see the caveat I noted above. However, they do say "unread replies" and not, "unread posts" so there may be some distinction between the two that we don't understand just yet.

The "Show Unread Posts" http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?action=unread shows all new posts since your last visit minus posts in forums you've ignored.  So that's the one to use if you're ignoring some forums and don't want to be bothered with new posts there.

The "Show new replies to your posts." http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?action=unreadreplies works a bit different and should only show new replies to things you've posted in.  That is the one that the caveat "When using the 'unread replies' link, new posts in an ignored board will still be shown." applies to.

Best regards,
Ken
