Hi Ken,
this is totally irrlevant, but I just thought I would mention it - the DST switch does not work correctly. Or rather it does, but it assumes we all switch at the same time :D Here in EU we are still in winter time and will be for further 10 days, the DST change is 3 weeks later, but the forum time for my TZ changed based on U.S. time :) which is actually strange because when I set the TZ in PHP for my place it uses correct time

The Forum's default time is America/New_York time which does observe USA Daylight time. I use -3 for my America/Los_Angeles Pacific time in my profile.
The Forum PHP software has no reliable way to determine the timezone of the viewer except to set a static offset (hours) from forum time in the displays (AFAIK).

Yes I thought so, but it is strange because I thought PHP can handle this.
When I set the TZ in PHP to "Europe/Prague" it gives the correct time so it confused me because WXforum also uses PHP and probably the same way of setting timezone and offsets

Ahh, you can set the timezone on your PHP, but not on WXForum.net's PHP .. that is set to America/New_York and the SMF forum only allows a +/- hour offset (not a timezone name) to be used for displays. I'm fairly certain the data is actually stored with a UTC timestamp, and the display routines add +/- hours to the date() display.
It would be sweeter if the forum allowed you to pick your timezone from a list, then it would always be in sync, but sadly, that's not the way SMF was written.

Love DST as it gets me closer to our true time rather then polictal time as our AST is refered to.

Isn't SMF open-source? Ask them if they want your assistance in developing a TZ/i8n fix.....

The 2007 DST change caused more disruption than Y2K did as far as I can tell. It kind of reminds me of this quote:
No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.
I have four "atomic" clocks that the geniuses that designed it have a hard-coded schedule, which is the pre-2007 one. I have to disable the "radio" in the spring and set DST off in the fall until the old dates come around. Why they just didn't follow the "DST bit" in the WWVB data baffles me....

Europe is :D And same in fall, we are 3 weeks different from the U.S.
As I mentioned above, developer's nightmare... some countries change, some dont. Those that do, change at different times, which in addition differ each year :D Have fun programming this...

Australia - First Sunday April
EU (vast majority) - last Sunday March
Canada - Second Sunday March
Japan - does not use DST
South Africa - no DST
U.S. - Second Sunday March

If you think that this is fun to program, try writing the code to adjust UTC to local time...when places like Iran and North Korea aren't even operating on an hourly boundary. This is the reason why the TZ offsets are usually specified in minutes.....

Also be hard to replace missing time zones. Alaska use to have 4 time zones now it has only two. Alaska and Bering.

And some provinces or states within countries don't change at all. Canada has 5 1/2 time zones and one province that doesn't change, and I believe Queensland in AU the same.
