2010 Anemometer Died. :(
« on: November 23, 2013, 04:10:43 PM »
Last big storm seems to have taken out my anemometer.  The wind cups will only spin about a rev before locking up although if I spin it in reverse it'll go a couple revs.  Fixable or return to Costco and buy something better.

Thx!

Ya, it was an experiment for my Meteobridge.  The Meteobridge has been flawless since the August update and the other part a POS.  Have ot look at options.  I was hoping that someone had some thoughts if it was fixable,  But thankfully Costco has the best return policy.

The Davis Vantage Vue 6250 is a nice outfit. I didn't think I'd like it but so far so go and going on 3 weeks now with it. I know that if you go to www.scientificsales.com you can find a discounted price there and they do have a package deal if you want the Weather Link to go with it. Just a thought.

You could try rubbing alcohol in a small straw (like a spray oil can uses) to see if it's something that can be washed out. The alcohol won't harm anything, washes and evaporates leaving no residue. This won't alter anything in Costco's eyes if it doesn't help either. ;)

Still on warranty - but thanks.  Better is a better idea.

Good idea - might try that.

I just fixed the anemometer of my ws-2812 which looks like yours and was slowing/stopping.  Per the LaCrosse website instructions for the 2812 (http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/2812/faq.pdf) page 4, at the bottom of the cup assembly is a plastic "locking pin" about 1/2 inch wide that can be pried out easily.  Then, gently pry/pull off the cup assembly.  I cleaned off the magnet mounted near the inside edge of the assembly and also wiped off the little bearing assembly in the center of the assembly.  I applied a small amount of lube to both the magnet and the bearing, reassembled, and everything works great.  Good luck!

A hailstorm late last summer took out the TX20U anemometer I had for my WS-2316.  Could not find a replacement anywhere!  Didn't just make the cups stop working, no.  Broke every one of them clean off, and broke the wind vane too.  Only ever found one of those cups, and it was in two pieces.

Finally gave me the excuse I needed to get upgraded to a Davis Vantage Vue.  ;)
