Ken, Ryan from Hays Weather can't get in. He's tried both URL's
and gets pushed to the maintenance page. Maybe his host hasnt gotten the updated DNS info??

If he's still seeing the maintenance page, that means he's accessing the old hosting site and yes, his DNS hasn't quite caught up yet with the new host.

I highly recommend for folks to use OpenDNS for their home DNS resolvers (see http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/parental-controls/ - use the Free OpenDNS Home ) -- their DNS servers are fast and as a bonus, block access to phishing sites really fast.  I configured my router to use them (after signup) instead of the default Comcast DNS (historically slow responding and slow to update to changes).

It should clear by 10:30pm Eastern tonight, but let him know that wxforum.org will work now for him and he can use wxforum.net tomorrow :)

It's not working for me at home, using OpenDNS. It works on my phone, though. On my computer, every time I click a new link I have to change .net to .org

I got this also Ken:
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Also see there's 176 guests on here?

Ryan wants me to relay this also:

Tell him wxforum.org comes up but when I go to Log in it brings me to the maintence page. What I'm saying is that when I try to Log in using wxforum.org I guess it brings me to wxforum.net?

Thanks Ken!

Looking good from this end this morning although I was beginning to worry last night when shutting down for the night.  12hrs had past since the maintenance mode began and withdrawal was setting in. Did spell checker go away in new posting or was it always this way?

Thanks,

Dan

Sadly, the access to wxforum.net won't be resolved until all the DNS servers fetch and use the new data for where wxforum.net is hosted (now at 1and1, formerly at hostgator).  Since the time-to-live on the record was/is 24hrs, the local DNS will only do a reload after 24 hours have elapsed from the last time they reloaded the zone file.

The DNS changed at 10:30pm Eastern on 7-Apr-2013 so some DNS may not fetch a new one until 10:30pm Eastern on 8-Apr-2013 and that's just the way DNS works.

For folks accessing wxforum.org the getting wxforum.net (the old one), I suggest closing the browser tab, clearing cache and cookies for wxforum.* and trying again .. that should get you working during the interim period.

The built-in spell checker may be a problem.. it is based on the pspell library and the 1and1 host doesn't have that enabled.  The option is still enabled in SMF, but it shows
Quote
You MUST have the pspell library installed on your server and your PHP configuration set up to use the pspell library. Your server DOES NOT appear to have this set up.
I'll see what is possible to enable on the server configuration.. meanwhile, I suggest you enable spell-check in your Firefox or Chrome browser -- it's what I use (much faster, and lets you know immediately when you make a misspelling).

Best regards,
Ken

Looks like it's fixed here. I don't know if refreshing the OpenDNS cache helped or not, but all I care about is that I have access again.

Hi,

Finally got in last night.  My ISP got caught up being out here in the Pacific Ocean with the big time zone difference of -10 hours UTC and only 2 hours away from the Date Line, if that was the difference into this forum longer than than folks on the East coast of the mainland.

Thanks for all the support being done.

Ken,
I still get the maintence page when logging in from my PC. I've cleared cache and cookies on both Firefox and Chrome. Logging in from cell is no problem. What else is there to do?

Try on your PC in a command (DOS) prompt window:

nslookup wxforum.net

You should see something like:

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    wxforum.net
Addresses:  2607:f1c0:1000:20f3:b656:a6e3:d95c:1821
          198.251.68.102

If you see something like

Name:    wxforum.net
Address:  184.172.176.32

then that's the old address, and your DNS provider has not updated recently.
In the output of the command are lines like:

C:\Users\Ken>nslookup wxforum.net
Server:  resolver1.opendns.com
Address:  208.67.222.222

indicating which DNS is being used (I use OpenDNS for mine) .. which DNS server(s) are you using?
You can switch to OpenDNS or to Google DNS services .. either are likely much better than the DNS servers provided by your ISP

I get this.

Name: wxforum.net
Address: 184.172.176.32

My server is my router. NorthwestKS2-1

I take it no one on this forum uses Eagle Communications for Internet? Probably just me. Hilarious.

I've also did a command prompt like so.
ipconfig/flushdns with no luck.

Yep, that's the old address for the forum.

Do you have access to your router to change the DNS settings?   I have a Cisco EA3200 and it allows me to specify the preferred DNS settings like shown in the image below.
