Nominations for Featured WX Website Winter '06 now open
« on: January 06, 2007, 07:14:16 PM »
It's time to start the search for the WXForum.net Featured Weather Website for Winter 2006, so please post your nominations (with a short description about your nominee) in this thread.

Gary's guidance
Quote
Please list your nominations in this thread - it certainly can't hurt for you to describe why you think your nomination is deserving of this honor.

Don't forget that it is perfectly OK to nominate someone who has been nominated in the past but was not selected! We've had some very deserving nominees, and close runoffs!

Some criteria to consider when making nominations:

The visual attractiveness of the site
Ease of navigation
Quality and quantity of useful or interesting information
Educational value
Distinctiveness

While not a hard and fast rule, sites that only use the unmodified default web page template that comes with the software, while absolutely useful and functional, may not cross into that next level to warrant featuring in this manner.
is still great, so please try to address these areas while nominating a site.

We'll run the nominations thruogh Wed, 17-Jan-2006, then start a new thread for polling on Thurs, 18-Jan-2006.  The polling will run through Wed, 31-Jan-2006.

Let the nominations begin!

Best regards,
Ken

I'd like to nominate Tom's (carterlake) website http://www.carterlake.org/ for consideration (as I did for our last poll).

Tom's site has been up since August, 2005 and undergone a tremendous metamorphosis during the time.  His templates are the stock multi-page template for WeatherDisplay websites.

His experimentation with PHP brought multiple useful scripts (NOAA forecast, WU Radar in particular) that are used on many enthusiasts websites.  His later work with Boltek scripts and GRLevel3 radar have allowed many to add these features to their sites too.  His work with Jozeph at Joske-online.be on AJAX allowed WD users to add near-real-time updates to their websites too.

Did I mention that Tom's PHP NOAA forecast script (along with Anole's wxsticker script) were the chief learning tools I'd used to try my hand at PHP too.. thanks Tom for freely sharing what you've learned.

Tom also has multiple pages on his site to explain how things work (the Boltek one is my favorite).

His site is well organized, easy to navigate and informative!

Best regards,
Ken

I'll second that nomination.  Tom's site at carterlake.org is an excellent example of how a weather site should look and function.

Agreed, and the bonus is his work that he freely gives away with things like his templates that come with Weather Display, and are favoured by many many sites.

I'd like to nominate PSJohn's http://www.desertweather.com. John has done a lot of work on his site recently, and his clean design makes me want to spiff up my weather site.

His site has consistent easy-to-use navigation, and I really like the innovative way he's using VWS's graphs.

John has also been a valuable member of the Southwestern Weather Network, the 10th member site to join, and taking an active part in growing  that regional network.

He's a little quiet on this forum, so if you haven't checked out DesertWeather, give it a look.

Hey that's nice!  Clean, flows well, informative.  I like all the ones that have been nominated.  This one is very aesthetically pleasing.

Wow, thanks for the nomination! I'm honored.

I would like to nominate "Capitola Weather Net".  I have always enjoyed Ken's site, simple, nice to look at, and very thorough.  A lot of my motivation to improve my site came from Capitola Weather Net!

Is it possible to nominate Chris's site; http://www.capeweather.com/ even though he is an Admin.?  If so I think he should be in the running.  Its one of the best looking and most informative sites around.  I get the idea that people around his area really rely on it.

I would like to nominate my own website for consideration. I know this seems cheesy but I believe my little website deserves a chance. I designed my site more or less as a local website to inform the neighbors around me; now it is seen from Brazil to Russia!
