The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter
Storm Watch...which is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through
late Wednesday night.
A strong cold front is forecast to move through a Kansas City to
Chillicothe line Wednesday morning causing temperatures to drop into
the upper 20s to lower 30s by later in the afternoon. Rain may
continue behind the front and lead to significant ice accumulations
into the evening hours.
A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow...sleet...or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and statements.

Only in California...

Out here (southern California) we currently have a Special Weather Statement for "extremely cold temperatures" concurrent with a Fire Weather Watch (dry and windy).

FWIW, "extremely cold" for us is apparently teens and 20s (8-10 hours of sub-freezing).

Just keeps getting better & better. After an inch of ice and sleet yesterday here's what's on tap for today. I'm south of I-70 so I'm in the 8 - 14 range. Should be fun. Guess it's time to hook the tow strap to the hitch on the truck and go make some $$.

Warning Summary: ...Heavy Snow Warning Remains In Effect From Noon Today To 6 Am

Warning Message:

A Heavy Snow Warning remains in effect from noon today to 6 am
CST Friday.
A potent winter storm is expected to track from Oklahoma into
southern Missouri today and tonight. Snow is expected to develop this
afternoon and become heavy at times tonight. Snowfall accumulations
this afternoon will generally be less than two inches. Snowfall rates
of 1 to 2 inches are possible tonight...especially south of
Interstate 70. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 9 inches are expected
north of Interstate 70 with 8 to 14 inches south of the Interstate.
Some blowing and drifting of the snow is also likely. The snow is
expected to end by daybreak on Friday.
The track of the storm system is extremely critical. Any small
deviation of the forecast will affect snowfall accumulations significantly.
A Heavy Snow Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring.  Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must...keep an extra flashlight...food...and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

noquitters, make sure you keep it. I don't want any of it. Expecially the ice. Bad enough when you can see it. Even worse when it's covered up with snow.

So should I feel guilty when I go home at lunch and open my windows to let all the nice warm 75 degree air circulate through the house? Or that I'll open my sunroof and all windows in the car while I drive home?

No you shouldn't be feeling guilty at all. I'll be wishing for some of this 60 degree weather come Janurary & February.

Ah, Beckley... as I recall, if you're not on I-77, you're pretty close to it, right?

I remember back when..... you could get t-shirts that said "I survived the West Virginia Turnpike". You know, back when it was a 2-lane road??  

But seriously, I do remember all the construction way back, mid-to-late 70s? Early 80s? I remember detouring, on a dirt/gravel road, down towards a creek--and I do mean downhill--following it for a while, then going back up to the "real" blacktop road.... along with all the semi's...

Ah yes, the good old days...

Well, we've only got one more 70+ day, then 60s Sat, and 50s through next week, with lows down to the bone chilling 30s.......

noquitters, in my defense, I grew up in the snow belt of NE Ohio. Believe me, back in the 60s and 70s we got snow! I plowed my parents 300' driveway with an old WWII vintage Ford tractor with a blade in the back, no cab of any sort... I put in my time...

(but I did have use my A/C in the car for a little bit at lunch!! LOL)

Well, it started snowing at 2:00, it's now about 4:50 and we already have 6 inches on the ground and it's still coming down like crazy. Not going to stop until around 6:00 tomorrow morning. Record snowfall for KC on one day is 16 inches back in 1912. Looks like that may be going out the window.
